I'm a 20 year old female and have been
having heart palpitations for the past 6
months or so. I've been on birth control
for about 4 years and have heard about
possible side effects such as heart attack
and stroke. I don't smoke or drink. As
a long distance runner, I also run about
50 miles a week (to be soon increased as I
am training for a marathon), but usually
my palpitations arise when i'm at rest.
I'm worried sick that i'm just going to
drop dead from a heart attack or
something. I was wondering if anyone has
ever had heart palpitations and has had
confirmation from a md that birth control
was the culprit. Thanks.

Im not a doctor, or nurse, but I dont
think bc has anything to do with the
palps. I suggest going to a cardiologist.
I was diagnosed with wolf parkinson white
when I was 14, ( I am 30 now) and that
caused my palps. I would be sitting still
like you and all of a sudden my chest
would feel like it would pop out. At
resting my heart beat was at 200 beats per
min. Another month I could have been
dead. Wpw is caused my extra pathways in
the heart. Like I said check with a
cardiologist. Good luck

I would doubt that your bc has anything to
do with it. I have also been on bc for a
while now and went to the doctor b/c I
have had really weired heart rhythms. It
wasn't anything to be worried about.
After a series of tests and a halter
moniter that I wore for 48 hours, it was
arrythmia, which is nothing to worry
about. I hardly notice it at all. The
one thing that triggered this was
caffeine. Now that I drink caffeine free
pop and more water, I haven't noticed it
for nearly a year. It is more or less a
genetic thing. But, go to your doctor and
so they can do these tests on you. Hang
in there, you will be fine!
