Hi I am not bipolar, my mother was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about 2 years ago. On friday night, she ended up overdosing on sleeping pills. She said that she wasn't trying to kill herself, but when she hit the bad depression before, she attempted suicide by overdose. I am not sure whether or not she was so depressed that she was trying to hurt herself or because she was in her manic stage only a few days before that maybe she was just too tired and indeed lost count of the pills and was just trying to sleep. Since then she has been at thunderbird behavorial center. She ended up getting sad and then really mad that she wasn't home and trashed her room and hit her head against the window trying to get out. Since then the doctors have had her on a sedating medication that starts with an 'e' but I don't know what she was saying. Since she started this she has had slirred wording and really doesn't remember a thing and thinks things that aren't true. She claimed to have had an agrument with my sister only 10 minutes before that indeed did not happen. I am wondering if all these 'random' things that she is thinking is because she misses home and is trying to get out of the sedation and can't or what. But I find it very hard to visit her because she is not herself and I cried the entire way home tuesday night because she didn't know what she was saying. I think that she needs a support group to help her understand and take her disorder and her medication more seriously. I would also like to know more about what is going on because I am worried about her and what will happen to her if she doesn't listen. I am truly afraid that the next time she overdoeses she won't be coming back home. I am so sorry if I sound like I am rambling, but I just don't know what to do anymore. Please if you can help me, any and all help would be appreciated!!

My mom is bipolar and takes meds for it. She takes lithobid. Hope I spelled that right! She has real bad depression too. I think her doctor said she was manic depressive! It really sucks! She use to be a alcoholic about 8 years ago and that made her even more depressed. My mom has tried to kill her self about 3 times. Maybe more I don't know about. It's hard to tell. But her bipolar makes her really moody! She likes to fight all the time. Sometimes it's so hard to be around her. She tries to fight about everything. Bipolar don't just affect the person! The family goes through hell also! I love my mom though and her family try to help her the best we can. She has been doing better since she got on lithobid. But it doesn't cure them that for sure. We take one day at a time really. Some days are good and some are really bad. If u would like to ask me any questions just pm me!
