Hi, if your head pain is only on one half of your head,
e.G. Only on the left side or only on the right side,
its probably a migraine headache.
I have found zomig (chemical name zolmtriptan) is
really effective for getting rid of the headache for about
twelve hours. This is especially helpful if you happen to have influenza
at the time as you can get a good nights sleep, eat properly and
stay warm. After twelve hours, if the pain comes back, I just take another
zomig. But often the headache doesn't come back. There is also naramig
which is supposed to be even longer lasting in its effects but I haven't
used that one. At the same time as taking the zomig, I also take a
panadol and aspirin but I think the zomig is the main medication stopping
the actual migraine.
Zomig is quite expensive so if I don't have a really severe headache,
i often try to save money by taking cafergot instead. Its not quite
as powerful at getting rid of headaches but for lighter headaches,
it often does the job, particularly when taken in the early stages
of the headache. Cafergot can make you feel really hungover if you take
it when you don't really have a migraine but just think you do. But if
you really do have a migraine, somehow it is just what the doctor ordered
and the pain goes away for a few hours.
I've found that watching digital tv instead of poor reception
analog tv is really reducing the incidence of my migraines.
I suspect that the now clearer tv picture is no longer inducing an
epilepsy type of response whereby the blood vessels supplying my
brain are no longer having spasm attacks now, it also seems i'm
not so acutely affected by atmospheric pressure and humidity changes,
e.G. Changes in the weather. Hopefully this is a longterm effect.
I'm going to be careful of too much time spent in front of blurry or
flickering computer monitors, too.
