I suffered with a psychotic episode a few years back and since than have been prescribed the same medication. The medication I take is called risperidone 3mg or risperdal, it's an anti-psychotic (major tranquiliser), and procyclidine 5mg (for the side effects). I understand risperidone is a second generation medication under the anti-psychotic umbrella of medications. Has anyone heard of third generation anti-psychotics or indeed are prescribed any? Please post to let me know, i'm interested.

Medication
I'm taking 40 mg of geodon a night. It is giving me headaches. I will try 20mg someday to see whether it will lessen.

I tried seroqual 50mg. It is very sedating. My whole right brain was numb. Also I went to e.R. Because my whole body was shaking. I don't recommend this one. Very scary feeling.

I'm currently taking 100mg of zoloft for depression/anxiety.

I recently tried abilify, but had a dystonic reaction to it.

In the past, I took prozac for depression.

Hi I also suffered a psychotic episode due to being in a mixed state a couple of weeks ago. I have been taking risperidone and the drug is helping a great deal ... I also take 2mg like you. If it works, keep it going, dont worry about how old it is.

I was once on antipsychotic drugs until I knew the truth. The new antipsychotics are very dangerous like the old ones. My psychiatrist kept that from me. I learned that it can cause dopamine hypersensitivity that induces tardive dyskinesia. Also antipsychotics changes the struture of the brain and also increases psychosis later in life. There are a lot of successful recoveries from schizophrenia without using drugs. It is just to bad is not popular with psychiatrists.
