I think that you need to find another outlet for your frustration, because you never know one day you might just cut too deep. It doesnt sound like your suicidal you just need to find another outlet for frustration. I really think that you should talk to somone about it, somone who cares about you alot

Thanks so much for replying I know my problems aren't as serious as the ones around me but still I know cutting isn't good and i'd really like to stop. I used to deal with my frustration through running which helped a lot and on the most part made me feel better but a year ago I got a knee injury and have been really slow at recovering to run which only added to frustrations I already have. I've tried writing or punching things but it hasn't really helped.

There are some close friends i've told and they either don't take it seriously for example one actually recommended me to draw interesting things besides slashing and its not like cutting is an art class its something I don't want to have to deal with or hide anymore. I have my highs and lows and it always seems in my highs I can't understand why I got to the point of hurting myself again. There's one friend who's helpful but she's never around, are there anything else, like a hobbie ,you can suggest that could maybe prevent myself from needing to cut again?

I was going to suggest a punching bag! But if that doesnt work its really totally up to what you enjoy and what you are capable of doing(i guess running isnt easy anymore) just remember there is always that split second before you begin hurting yourself, where you can make the decision whether or not to do it. Your mind is strong, use your will power and tell yourself to stop. I hope this helps!

Perhaps, when you feel the urges to cut hit, get a pen and paper, and write about what you're feeling etc. This used to work as a delay tactic for me, and if you feel you can't write beforehand, write about it afterwards - just make a commitment to write either before or after. Obviously before being the preference.

It does get easier, and you can stop. I used to cut, and have been symptom free from that for 9/10 months now. It is so freeing...
