Hi, I am about 12 days post op total abdominal hysterectomy. I have bleeding bright red blood like a normal period for about 5 days.
Upon leaving the hospital the rn told me to call right away with any
vaginal bleeding.
Called the office and both the doctor that did the surgery and his partner the next day poo-pooed it.
Anyone out there experience alot of bleeding afterwards?????

Same Problems
Yes. I have started bleeding 4 months after my surgery. I started doing research online, every where it talks about that you may bleed a little anywhere from after your surgery to 6 weeks. Although it also states that you may have other problems and should see your obgyn just to make sure that it is not anything else.
Right now that is what I going through, I am hearing my obgyn telling me this is normal and my family Dr. Tell me that its not.
I would get a 2nd opinion, just so that you really know. Remember you know your own body. Everyone is different.

Bleeding One Year After A Complete Hysterectomy
Just over one year ago I had a complete hysterectomy, today when I urinated and wiped myself there is blood on the tissue? Is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's been12 days since my hysterectomy
and I am bleeding. I am crampy and uncomfortable. I am on Vicoden and Ibuprofen for the pain, but it doesn't seem to help with the cramping much.
I was on the depropravera shot for about 5 years and had wonderful success with it. No periods or bleeding. Just PMS when it was time for the next injection. But very tollerable.
The only reason I found out about my cysts was because I was being treated for bursitis in my hips, and after an MRI turned out to be cysts.
In November of 2008 I had a cystoscopy/laperoscopy procedure done to see what the real problem was. My left ovary was completely covered with cysts on top of cysts and so on. The right ovary had cysts but nothing like the left. Which is where the pain started.
By February of 2009 the pains were back, but this time on the right side. Living on pain killers was the only way to get through work. After jumping through a million and one hoops because of other health concerns, ie constant headaches and vision problem, I needed to have a spinal tap done before my OB would preform the sugery. All was cleared and I was schedule.
It's now been 12 days and I started spotting 2 days ago. Today it is heavier and thicker. It's a deeper red color at times and pink other times. But I am crampy. I had a complete hysterectomy done by laperscope and vaginally. Four little cuts in the abdomin and that was all. But according to my doctor I had endometriosis so bad that my woman parts were stuck together. They called in another doctor to assist. The normal 1 hour surgery turned into over two hours. A lot of pain while in the hospital for 2 more days after surgery.
I will admit that I may have pushed myself a little too quickly. I don't do any lifting, but I have stairs in my home that I have taken 4 times since I have been home. I went shopping for a short time today as well.
So, my question is, is all this cramping and bleeding from doing too much this soon? The doctor told me I could resume normal life excluding heavy lifting, sex, etc. But 'as long as you feel up to' there was no reason why I couldn't do it. Was he wrong?
Please help. I really don't want to go back under the knife to correct this. I have missed enough work already.
Thanks

I am not a doctor and you may want to put this as a doctor question if you are uneasy about it.....However, after having the abdominal surgery myself, plus corrective vaginal surgery, it does takes a long time to recover...You feel like you were hit by a truck and they didn't pick up all the pieces. Rolling Eyes ..I was told to wait 6 weeks for sex...I think you are pushing it on activity...Rest...Take it easy...I was not to push a vacuum for I believe three months...This I enjoyed...If you have any questions or start bleeding harder, call the doctor...But, you are not too far from surgery date and unless the bleeding got real bad, I wouldn't worry...Take it easy...It is not a simply surgery...Good luck...

Thanks, I am just hoping that's it's not too late and I already did some damage. I am going to take your advice and not worry at this time. I will give it a few more days and see what happens.
Thank you again

Just called the doctor
I just called the doctor on call, considering it is 1:00 am. Lucky me it was the OB who did my surgery. Anyway the bleeding has increased and I was getting scared.
He told me that it was normal and not to worry. Unless it's 'pouring out of you' don't be concerned. Also asked if I did some 'extra' exercise today. And as stated, I did some walking today. "That is normal after returning to a semi-normal routine. Put your feet up and relax." is what he suggested. So that is exactly what I am going to do.
Thanks again for you help. And I am glad that I called the doctor. It's a little peace of mind.
Thanks
kris

bladder nicked during the surgery. Very depressing.
I am 8 days post total vaginal hysterectomy. During the surgery the Doctor nicked my bladder so I came home with a cathiter. Not too mych pain, some leg cramping.
I am managing it with tylenol. Got off the hard stuff as soon as I could.
I have the bag attached to me for another 2 weeks, where they will go in with dye and see how the bladder is healing.
I am usually pretty positive, but have gotten pretty blue and sad a few times. This too shall pass I tell myself.
I will put my feet up and try and keep the smile.
Good luck ladies in your healing.
Try and stay positive and don't worry unless you know there is really something to
worry about
All take care,,,,,,,,Robin

Cramping and Bleeding 4 weeks post op please help
I am 4 weeks post op of my surgery this coming Monday. For the past week I have had a lot of cramping in my lower belly. I have also had some dark, almost brownish tinted blood... it is thick like a discharge. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I only had my uterus removed... also, since only my uterus was removed do I still have to wait 6 weeks for sex?

Seeing the blood is dark, I wouldn't worry...However, if it gets red then check it out with your physician...If the doctor said 6 weeks, then you would be wise doing what he said...The cervix area is what is raw and this is where the tip of his penis will hit....However, some oral sex and stimultion would be OK....Good luck...

Hi i too have just had a total vaginal hysterectomy and am concerned about bleeding - i have had minimal dark red blood since the op - but was convinced the surgeon said it would only bleed for a couple of days - i am now 11 days post op - but bleeding slightly increased and more red when i wipe ( although it is not running out! and no where near as much as a period)
is this normal and how long does it normally last

....Just keep an eye on it...If it flows bright red and you are concerned, call your doctor...Don't lift anything heavy and take it easy...Each person is different as far as how long it lasts...I would say three weeks should be near the end of it...Usually the doctor sees you at the end of 6 weeks, so talk to him/her then...Take care...
