I've had a lump that's not noticeable unless I push my bottom lip out with my teeth and then a white mark appears. It's hard and hurts when I bite it or play with it with my tongue and it's been there for since 8th grade (4 or 5 years). Could it be cancerous?

I've had a mucous cyst on the inside of my lower lip that comes and goes. I've already had surgery once to remove it and it has come back. I was wondering if anyone knows, before surgery, does the cyst need to be risen to the surface? Does need to show? Trying to figure out how they can make sure this time it comes all the way out.

lump inside bottom lip
i just cut mine out myself, like just now! Its is hard and looks like scare tissue. Once i cut it and pushed it to the top it was attached really good to area, had to clamp it and pull, when i did it got bigger. left a hole the size of m&m but is closin up. Should i put in container and take to doctor?

Hi boomer2001....Something like this should always be biopsied....Personally, I would never cut something out myself...Take care...

well to make the swelling go down get a cup of water and put salt in it then swish it around in your mouth

I had a syst on my mouth and burst it like many have and this clear liquid came out. Since bursting it, it has gone down but has formed a hard lump. The size of a pea, its not really visible but its been over a month now and still not gone down. Is this now a scar will it remain? Very annoying. Tried to squeezt it earlier but only managed to make my lip bleed. What should I do?

albear,

I am dealing with the same thing. I had the same little clear bubble about the size of a small seed that I burst last week. Then my lower lip formed a hard ball about the size of a pea that you really cant see in the same spot. Very annnoying and hard not to mess with and worry about. From reading the previous posts it does not sound like it is anything to worry about. I might go get it checked out though.

My doctors explanation and my experience.
This is a cyst created by crushing/severing a salivary gland which generally happens when you bite your lip. I was referred to an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist who numbed it up with a needle and the cut a few holes in it with a tiny scissors. It disappeared immediately. I was given an antibiotic, some Tylenol 3 and was sent on my way. You can get rid of this as soon as you see the appropriate physician. In rare cases, the cyst will continue to return after being "popped" and then must be removed via an outpatient procedure where they cut it out from the inside of the lip (no visible scarring). This is not cancer and nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.

Extremely eHealthy
lol and thinking back, about 17 yrs ago I had a lump from inside lower left lip from accidentally biting it and for weeks wouldn't go away;
HAD TO hold darn thing out to eat so not to bite.
lucky I had new Dr under a HMO had to see 1st time blah blah blah , showed him;
He says "I'm going to send u to a Dr" NEXT day at the new Dr office he looks and says "when I'm done u r going think I did a miracle" (think he's putting me @ ease)
sit in chair 10 minutes and I actually said "I believe it", the miracle.
Don't remember what he called it but there was no surgery and walla guess what? freaking lip was back to normal
