Heyyy
Hey everyone. I can totally relate to this. Although, on my part, it's mostly worrying about my stomach making noise. Not really it happening. I remember that it wasn't really a problem until 9th grade. I was sitting in English after lunch.... and I hadn't eaten a lot, and I felt my stomach get weird. Then all the sudden. LOUD noise. The kid in front of me turned around and said "Was that your STOMACH!?" and I said "Uhhh.... maybe?" and he said... "Man, it was like BOOOMMMGEEE" (basically imitated it)... and I've had self conscious problems ever since. I've had some loud noise incidents, but not a ton. My problem is that the ACT test is coming up in about a week. It's the first 3 hours of the day for 3 days.... Dead quiet. I'm so scared. I used to be able to keep my stomach under control, but lately it seems to be worse than it was.

try a gluten-free diet
I was sitting in math class one morning in 10th grade....and my stomach went off...i didnt know what it was...i thot i was hungry...but then this started gooing on for days..months..years......i was really sick as in my system couldn't digest ANYTHING for the next months ahead of me...i was really sick...the thought of sitting in a classroom with people all around me made me break a nervous sweat after a while...i loved gym class...i went to doctors and a gasterinterologist..."the stomach doctor" and what anyone came up with was that I had "IBS"......i learned that IBS is another way of saying "we don't know what's wrong with you, so deal with it"....this put a huge damper on social life, self esteem and confidence...i avoided quiet situations with a passion....and i've gone thru the whole anxiety thing, etc., that i've been reading about so i won't elaborate..but i kno i've cried over it by myself sometimes...itz a horrible thing to have...especially when what we do all day involves social situations.....i was so scared to start university...and writing exams was hell...i wudn't be able to study days before because i'd be so caught up in thinkin of what my stomach was gona be like on the day OF the exam....im in my 4th year of university now...(7 years since)....i can't believe i've been going thru with this for long....

the summer of my 2nd year...i talked to my friends brother who was becoming a naturopath...he had tried to convince me numerous times to talk to his brother but i didn't listen thinking that no one could help me because i had gone thru this for so long and doctors didnt take me seriously....long story short, i was allergic to gluten...(so at this point i had been going thru hell for about 5 years and really about to lose my mind)...a week after following a gluten free diet, i didn't hear one noise.....AFTER FIVE YEARS OF HELL....all i had to go do was avoid gluten, and i was fine...i was ecstatic...i felt like i could live my life again...i felt refreshed...the more days i went along like this, the more confident i became of social situations...i wasn't in a worried and rotten mood all the time....i felt like i was myself again 5 years prior....

i feel like doctors dont take you seriously enough....i would reccomend going to a natural doctor...i am a very skeptical person...i need to see it to believe it...and i don't take any caca....a lot of people who have these problems are acutally allergic to gluten and after researching for quite a while i've found that more and more people are actually allergic to it....i wish i could write out everything and all my daily horrible experiences but i feel everyone here knows what its like...sitting in the back of class...puttng skool on hold...avoiding sleepovers...cinemas...CLASS...seeing how fast u can write a test so u can get out...making unnecessary noise to dampen the sound of ur stomach...oh i know! ITZ horrrrible....

therz so much to write i cant put it all down....but when it comes down to it...if we're hearing noises in our stomachs/abdomens...clearly whatever is going thru those things, is not agreeing....AKA the food we eat...so one must look at what we ARE putting into the system....i wud reccomend that people start by starting a gluten-free diet...see what ur results are...it is VERY common...and u can do it urself...jus google it...get a gluten-free recipe book....and make ur life YOURS again!!!!!!!!!!!

after being on this diet for two years....i've learnt what works and what doesnt...beware of dairy products sometimes...it seems to follow an allergy for gluten pretty closely....everyone is different....u learn what ur body is like after a while....for instance i cant eat anyyyy wheat products but the ONE thing i can eat is pizza hut....WEIRD...so like i said...u learn to deal with it...but this is a huge allergy that people overlook....i overlooked it because i almost didn't want to believe it was possible...and then later down the road i found out my uncle has it and my grandma did too....itz mostly hereditary...but it can be triggered randomly out of NOWHERE...give it a try...i'm not sure how else to emphasize this. take care~

stomach noises
I did not read about anyone trying probiotics and or digestive enzymes. Someone mentioned fiber.

I don't know if these suggestions will help each of you, but surely it will help some of you.

There are two kinds of fiber soluble and insoluble. The insoluble is roughage like what you get from bran. Soluble fiber feeds probiotic bacteria. It is best to get a soluble fiber that has a fairly high molecular weight like PHGG or inulin rather than FOS.

I don't want to ask ages, but as we get older, we produce fewer enzymes and supplementation is often the way to get over it. Find one that is high in fat(lipase) and fiber digesting enzymes (cellulae, hemicellulase), and make sure there are several carbohydrate enzymes like lactase (found in Lactaid)and alphaglactocidase (found in Beano)

I agree on the gluten, and there are probably many other foods that should be watched like lactose (milk sugar), milk protein (casein), artificial sweeteners (sorbitol), FOS etc. Many of these foods "feed" the gas producing bacteria and they can generate lots of methane, and CO2. When these gases move, they make noise and can cause some pain and surely some embarrassment. At least fiber, enzymes and probiotics don't suggest you wear dark clothing like some FDA approved drugs do.

Hope this helps.
I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Yo florence45
I eventually found that ebook you were talking about that dealt with stomach noises. I bought it and was happy with it. The main thing that I took from the book was that Olive Oil is fantastic at reducing stomach sounds. Something about the fatty acids reducing the intestinal contractions.

Some relief from Noises
Hi All,

I have had these stomach rumblings and noises for about 12 years. I know how embarrassing it is. I work in a corporate environment and I have to be in meetings with senior management and believe me this problem has kept me on the edge.

I had been to several doctors before and nothing worked. Recently I also went through the tests endoscopy, colonoscopy and flagyl tests. Everything came out to be negative. I was then diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. At least after ruling out all the horrible diseases, I started researching for natural ways to calm myself and my system down. I don't know if I am cured yet but I do believe I'm relatively better than before.

Here are the things I have tried and I wanted to share with everyone. I dont know what may work for you, but there is nothing to lose.

- Apple Cider Vinegar (a few table spoons throughout the day with honey and water)
- Aloe vera concentrate (a few drops) in Water twice a day. If you can find aloe juice that should work too.
- I took a Reiki workshop over a weekend and that is extremely relaxing. There are many people who have been cured of major diseases with continued therapy.
- I eliminated caffeine from my diet. No tea not coffee, no soda. I reduced sugar intake. Infact I purchased Stevia, a natural sugar substitute.
- I am neither lactose intolerant nor wheat intolerant. Yet I started drinking lactaid and only moderate amount of milk products. I reduced wheat intake too.
- I purchased a hypnotherapy CD for IBS - just google for IBS Audio Program - Its about $90. It is a 100-day program. I am currently on my 40th day.
- I regularly visit an acupuncturist - my insurance covers the visit, so it doesn't cost much. Even w/o insurance the visit should be between $60-$80
- I have significantly reduced eating out. I prefer to eat home cooked, healthy food, rich in soluble fibre. Sometimes I add flax seeds in my cereal too.
- I have started meditating more and I believe being calm helps me a lot.

I tell myself, I shouldn't resist the moment that I'm in. I started to count how many times has my stomach made noises in the last week. I realized that the number wasn't anywhere to close the number of the moments I have been stressed with just the thought that my stomach will make noise. I have made serious attempts to calm myself down and meditation helped me a lot.

I hope something will work for you too. Like I said I am still working on myself and if I find anything else I will keep you posted.

Try This
This has worked for me for more than 6 months so far. The person who said it is slow motility was correct. I take one dose of Miralax every weeknight. It is a safe and non-habit forming, and works not as a stimulant, but by increasing the amount of water that is used by your colon, so its more natural than the others out there. I eat fiber once in a while, and when I do, I skip the Miralax that day. I have had maybe one day of noises per month; when it happens, I take the hyomax (or hyocosamine, I think is the brand name) prescribed by my doctor for muscle spasms. I can now have all the foods I used to eat, even coffee. By the way, I don't think carbonated beverages help, as someone else posted, since they are a source of gas in and of themselves. I think the changes in diet work for a while because it is changing how things work/move, but only temporarily until your body gets used to the change in diet. I remember what it is like to have this problem every day, and I wish everyone the best of luck. I hope I have found my solution with this.

Another push for that book

Olive oil is definately the way to go for sure. Don't get nervous because it is fat, it is really good for you. The fatty acids that are made from the digestion of the olive oil, help to slow down the intestinal contractions and therefore prevent you having any noises.

I had this problem and found a solution
Following my 3 easy steps and you can control your stomach.

Most of us know that there is a huge connection between the mind and body? Even notice that out stomachs make most of the noise when a room is silent, or before taking a test? Or simple being close to another person. It has alot ot do with the mind at the same time it is also what you eat. I hate to say this but if you want it to stop instantly lets say you have an exam and want it to stop the day before you have to stop eating 8pm the day before and skip breakfast, this will stop it for that day but shouldnot be done again!! you need to eat. I realized that when you feel like its gonna make a noise start breathing more and stand up so your not on a slouch, and push so that your trying ot fart but sont ataully fart, this will cause the air to go pass but then return making a smaller rumble but you should only hear it.

Again breath alot and relax.......

Hey guys. I have had this problem since about my sophomore year of High school and I am now a Junior in High school. I remember when I first started hearing it and told my mom she told me it was because my period was starting, yeah well that's not the case haha.
Your stomach is on your left, so that's where the pain should be around. I also get sharp pain in my descending large intestine but this is a sign of ulcer colitis stuff, I feel that its because I have a hard time digesting my food and certain foods that I eat. I decided that I would keep a journal to see the foods that I eat. My noises happen at the most random time, they're happening now actually. There is no structure to it, they will happen directly after I eat or hours after I eat and they can happen for hours at a time.

I also feel that since I can't burp, and yes I have tried thousands of times, that this could be the cause of some of the noises. I am pretty sure that some of the noises come from the fundic region of my stomach (the part that collects air pockets) and since I can't burp its sending the air out in another way.

I'm going to try those fiber capsules and I'll let you guys know if that helps me at all.

I've had a problem for about a year now. It started after i had eaten a very oily soup as a very bad stomachache in which i thought i was going to die. Since that first stomachache I've had many more less severe ones that normally occur after eating fatty or oily foods. That was my only symptom at first but then i began to burp constantly and then it happened- my stomach began to sometimes make very strange noises when i would breath in deeply or when I would push on my stomach. It sounded like something oozinng in out and out of my stomach. I still haven't figured out the problem but i hope i do soon.

i've had these problems for almost 4 months now, and i'm so sick of it that it drives me insane. I've tried almost anything, from fiber, miralax, olive oil, diet, hcl w/ pepsin for low stomach acid, and nothing freaken works. The doctor i went to has no idea whats going on and started to prescribe a bunch of tests & medicine - which is horrible coz i dont even have health insurance... If anyone knows a solution to this stupid but really life affecting problem plz share your remedies.

p.s. i think that its just bunch of excess air stuch inside our abdomen or something, but i dont know why its there

I am so grateful to hear I am in the same boat. I have experience all of these symptom and feel the same about days of wishing to have surgery to reduce the pain and bloatedness. I get the backwards farting thing and loud gut noises and there is definitely a cycle of stress due to the embarrassment which makes you more stressed and so on...... I too have wanted to changed jobs because of it - going for interviews is hell because of the 1-2-1 in a quiet room, or having meetings is hellish. I've tried acidophilus supplements and they have some effect but it is minimal. Maybe i do need anti-anxiety drugs or just more fibre

you guys, i believe i have found a solution to this stupid but incredibly emberrassing problem. Like so many of you, ive suffered from this problem and was emberrassed many times, but after trying numerous remedies i do believe that i've finally found the long seeken cure. About two days ago i bought digestive enzyme supplement, Digest More Ultra, and i feel like its helping a whole lot, knock knock knock, so those bubles of gas that explode inside of you which cause these noises could be because you are unable to digest food due to lack of digestive enzymes produced by your body. Thus your body needs supplements, i believe that this could happen due to stress and anxiety which prohibits your body from making these enzymes - consequently causing these stomach grawles and etc...

all the best luck to all of you, hope this helps...

I have this same thing. I've been to several sites and it seems to be an UNKNOWN thing, becausee no one has the answer to what it is.

I'm a fifteen-year-old girl, and I have to deal with this. Usually, I get pain along my left side (upper and lower; usually between navel and hipbone on the left side.) It's usually/always accompanied by the loud rumbling, which sounds like a churning, and feels like somethings moving inside.

It's obviously not my stomach growling for food because it's a different kind of sound, and sometimes occur after I eat, or while I'm full. It feels worse on an empty stomach, and sometimes the pain eases after eating.

Every single MORNING while I'm in school (high school), my stomach gets upset and makes the noises, and churns. I get clammy cold hands, sweat, and feel nauseous.
I'm afraid of quiet situations, because that's when it usually comes back twice as worse. Also, when I'm nervous it's quite bad too.

So far, whenever I've been doing a test or an exam, it has come back. It always comes back extremely loud, and it's embarrassing. The worst part is that usually when it comes, I can't go to the bathroom to fix it, because my BMs are irregular, and sometimes I'm 'empty' and it still goes off?

It could just be all in my head, and because I don't have a high intake of fiber (which messes up your digestive tract) but I've tried to fix it, and it hasn't improved.

I think it could be: Gastritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diverticulitis, or a stomach ulcer (peptic ulcer). It's not my spleen, cause it doesn't feel enlarged, and I'm pretty sure my kidneys work fine.

When this summer is over, I'm going to be a sophomore in highschool. More quiet classrooms, more exams, more tests. Honestly, if I can't fix this noisy, dull gnawing achy problem, then I'm going to have to skip school.

It's embarrassing and unnecessary - I can't even concentrate on my school work either way, because all I'm thinking about is how I can escape if my stomach acts up.

Please help?
