i had my baby 2 years ago and i bled for 3 and half weeks. it ranges from person to person, also depending on your delivery. if there were any tears or stitches your going to bleed longer. Also breastfeeding helps bring your uterus down to size so your bleeding will be reduced.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! WHY DID I HAVE TO READ THIS?? I am due to give birth in a couple of DAYS and being my first pregnancy I was completely oblivious to bleeding after birth! Does it have anything to do with how your periods were? My periods were light and only lasted 3days does that mean I will bleed less? I was aware of not being able to do exercise for a couple of weeks and a couple of weeks without sex but oblivious to PP bleeding!! I have even planned a little get away 7weeks after my daughter is born ... I am devostated. Hehe I feel stupid Sad

Auzzi,
Don't feel stupid and don't worry so much about it. Everyone is different. Most people only bleed for 2 to 3 weeks. Then you have freaks like me who are still bleeding 9 weeks later...what great fun!
To answer your other question, bleeding after childbirth has nothing to do with the way your periods were. In my situation my periods were never really heavy and I would only bleed for 5 days. The bleeding that I experienced after having my son was much different. I'm not trying to scare you, I think my situation is less common. Try not to worry about it, you have better things to think about now.
Congratulation and enjoy every minute with your little one.

quarter size? Like clots? No your period should come as normal. Go see your doctor and see what they think.

After I gave birth to my daughter I had really large blood clots. I would say that I bleed for about 6 weeks straight. I had to change my pad about every 20 minutes. I believe the only reason the bleeding had stopped was because I had started receiving my Depo shot and that stopped my periods completely.

Bleeding heavy still at 5 weeks postpartum...
I had my daughter almost 5 weeks ago this sunday. And i had the normal bleeding after delivery not bright red but brownish discharge. Maybe a little red every once in awhile but the third week i stopped bleeding i thought i had stopped. Then the fourth week it came back so heavy bright red with some small clots. Almost soaking a pad within a hour or two. So I called the Dr. and she said that most likely it's from too much movement being to active. That's why they give us 6 weeks to rest! I Thought it was a period. I had pain like a period, the cramping, feeling very tired, moody!!

Postpartum Bleeding
I had my son 10 weeks ago and did not get the chance to breastfeed because I was very sick when I had him. The Dr. had to deliver him via C-Section. I bled for 7 weeks and then it stopped for 1 week before starting up again. I've been bleeding heavily for the last two weeks! It's so annoying. I went to the ER last night to make sure everything was ok and he did a bunch of tests and an ultrasound and found nothing wrong.

With my daughter, 3, I breastfed her exclusively but bled for the first 6 months after having her. I don't quite understand it and neither did the ER doc. He thought there must be something wrong with me. All I know is that right now I'm bleeding way too much and it's making it a very difficult time for my husband and me.
