Q: Auto Immune Hepatitis

I have been diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis. Never heard of it before I found out I had it. I am responding well with medication & hopefully I will go into remission.

I am currently on 10mg of prednisone, 100mg of imuran & fosomax one time a week to counteract the prednisone's side effect of osteoporosis.

Want to know if there is anyone else out there with this?

Newly Diagnosed..
I too am newly diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis. I was to start prednisone and imuran, but my liver enzymes went back to normal. The doc said that now there is no need for the pred, but that I should start on the imuran. I am reluctant after reading all the posts about it on another site.
I feel too good to believe that I have anything wrong, so it's hard for me to agree to go on some medication that may have all kinds of side effects.

fully recovered
I was diagnosed in 2007 with auto immune hepatitis. I was originally on 60mg of prednisone a day and eventually tappered down to the 100mg of imurane a day. I took prednisone for a full year. The fact that you are only on 10mg of prednisone a day is a good sign and that means that your doctor believes that you will be healthy and back to normal in almost no time at all. The side affects to prednisone are aweful, however if you take vitimins daily and calcium suppliments it will help with the effects these medicine has on your body. I was diagnosed by a process of elimination, however I had all of the same symptoms of someone who has autoimmune hepatitis. I no longer have symptoms or signs of the disease and all of my blood work comes back normal. So take heart and listen to your doctors and sooner than you know it you will be just fine. And just to let you know, this disease isn't common and can potentially lead to something more severe if it isn't taken care of right away.

i also have auto immune hepatitis and was diagnosed about 2 years ago. i had a biopsy, they confirmed the results and they started me on 50 mgs of prednisone. they are slowly weaning me off and after two years i am down to 5 mg/day. i tried immuran but i had an allergy to the madication. they replaced immuran with 6 MP. ive been taking this medicine for a long time now and i hope there is a time where i can stop talking it without relapsing. but so far i have relapsed twice in 2 years. and it looks like there is no stoping it. does anyone know what this disease can potentially lead to?

How to thank you?
Just found out yesterday I have autoimmune, and I to never heard of this until now. Was givin' prednisone for chronic gout but wasn't told to take it for the autoimmune. Have to question my doctor about that. thanks to the three post here it made me wonder if my doctor was trying to hide something. Anyways would be nice to hear from others who may have this. You never know who you might be helping just by sharing. (Thanks)
