We are considering having our 2 year old's
adenoids removed. He always seems to
have trouble breathing through his nose.
His seasonal allergies are pretty bad
right now ( he does take zyrtec) and even
in the wintertime he itches his nose a lot
more than normal, sometimes really hard.
He suffered an attack of asthma this week,
something he has never had before. I'm
hesitant to have him undergo surgery.
It's not something I would undergo
willingly. Can anyone advise? Thank
you.

It seems like a fairly common surgery, are
you removing the tonsils as well?
Complications with a surgery such as this
are rare, and have few side effects
(slight neck pain and bad breath being the
worst).
I can understand you not wanting your son
to go into surgery, no matter how trivial
it would be a hard thing to OK simply
because he's your child and you care. Your
doctor should be able to answer any
questions you have in terms of
alternatives or post surgery treatments.
