Just wondering on the type of dizziness you are feeling? I've had this for 5 months and the dizziness is like being on a boat feeling. Most of my symptoms have cleared up, i did have a virus, throwing up, fevers etc.. but now it's left me with this feeling of being on a boat dizziness. The swaying from side to side, and it's so difficult to do anything as I get tired quickly.

Hi Dizzygirl,

How are you? I haven't logged on to this forum for a long..long.. time.

Unfortnately, I still haven't recovered. The STP infusions didn't work so currently I'm seeing a "Vestibular Therapist" to help me with my balance problems. I have gone back to work on a reduced hours basis but I'm struggling to cope. The therapy does help me to cope a bit but overall I'm still feel miserable and imbalanced.

So how are you? Any improvement in your condition? Did you manage to do your MRI scan? Do keep me posted.

Take Care

Hi Fern,
That sucks. I'm a little better, it's the headaches that bother me, i get a very sensitive head and my ears buzz a lot. My dizziness is still around. My MRI was clear. I saw a new family doctor who gave me these pills to help me to relax and I felt so much better after taking only 1. My head pain completely vanished and my dizziness was very little. She told me to keep taking them until the actual problem goes away. They really help to relax me, I constantly have pain and pulsing in my head which doesn't help the dizziness. Also, i made an appointment with a chiropractor who specializes in headaches and dizziness so I'm going to see him on Monday. Wish me luck. It's been almost six months now since I've had this. How about you?

Hi,
sorry to hear you have been suffering so long. Sad Its terrible isnt it has been 10 weeks for me but i swear it seems like a year.
I went the doctor and she has sent me to a neurologist just to rule out any other problems it could be. But i am fairly sure is this viral infection as i seem to have all the symptoms.

Viral Ear Infection.....Grrrrrrrrrr

I stumbled upon this site but I'm not sure I feel better or worse now. My Dr. told me it could take a couple of weeks to subside. Some people on the forum however, have reported having this for months.

I have had my dizziness now for 1wk and 2days. I am going insane already! I booked in to see Naturopath on Monday, and an ENT on Thursday.

Mine started as a headache, then developed into dizziness, the headache is gone. However, I have a sharp headache behind my ear, neck pain & just feel utterly miserable.

I had a CT scan that was clear. I also have the thumping heartbeat which tends to come on after I have a severe attack of dizziness, usually from walking fast or doing something quickly.

I'm trying to stay positive and keep doing my day to day activities, I went to work everyday this week. It's very hard though & a readl struggle. I live to get home and lie down b/c that is the only think that seems to make me feel better.

I hope everyone starts to feel better.

Hi Ddawniecheer.....
Thanks for your kind words. I am telling you, its like being in your own personal hell! and constantly hearing, its viral theres nothing we can do!

I went to see my GP again this afternoon who has given me a referrel to an ENT which I am seeing on Thursday. Hooray! I hope he can help. In the meantime the GP gave be Stematil tablets to see if this will help with the dizziness. Apparently, he had another patient in today with the exact same symptoms as me.....may be a virus going around that effects the balance centre.

He says its unusual for the dizziness to last as long as 2 weeks, which is strange b/c the other GP said it could take a few weeks to clear-up. ????? I'm hopeing the ENT should be able to put my mind at peace and praying that the stemetil works.

I am on day 37 and although the dizziness has gone down signifigantly...its STILL THERE! WAAHHH!!

So, It feels like I am gonna be on Meclizine for the rest of my life.......UGH!

Hey D,

Awww that sux! At least its improving though, that's a positive!

The stemetil didn't really work. I'm on Prednisilone now b/c my own GP thinks I have fluid block. My Mum also told me to take a herbal remedy called Tebonin. I started this today apparently takes about 4 weeks to work. My aunt had chronic vertigo and she took this and it started to work after a month. May as well give it a go.

I see the ENT on Wednesday I'll let you know what he says. Hopeing its fluid block and not viral!

Inner Viral Ear Infection / Vertigo
Dear Everyone re: Viral inner ear infection
I had a terrible experience on Thursday 7/30. No symptoms prior: It was very hot and humid. I had 2 cups of coffee and 1 piece of melon. I did my house chores and then hosed down our deck in the shade. (yes I am thinking alittle dehydration too maybe?) I then walked out to the pool to clean it. My back had been out for 3 days prior to this so I first laid down on the pool deck to do pelvic tilts. I did those only for about 1 minute. I raised up and felt dizzy. I got up and felt dizzy. I started walking back to the house to wake my daughter as I thought I was having a heart attack or stroke. I started walking side to side. OH my goodness I was freaked out. I took my blood pressure it was good. I laid down and had a small glass of water. 15 minutes later my blood pressure was really low. (I hear thats from laying down??) I freaked and called 911. I had many test in the hospital. EEG,CatSkan,Lung exray, Chest exray, blood work and urine work. The emergency room Dr. was unbelievable and thorough. The doctor diagnosed me with Inner Ear Viral Infection / Vertigo. He sent me home with a scrip for valium and Z-pak (antibiotic). My dizziness pretty much stopped in the hospital with the valium. I have not had the walking side to side dizziness at all but have felt alittle bit lightheaded but nothing as it was. I have been using Saline nasal spray too on my own. When I held one nostril closed and tried to breather thru the other I could hear it not completely open. I think the viral thing dries it out so the saline spray helps and it's not harmful for you. I am amazed at some of the stories above and the length of time people are suffering. I like the excercises above and that seems sensible. The only thing that is questionable is I had no symptoms. The doctor said I had a little fluid in my ears. I am amazed that something like this can't affect us as it does. Thanks everyone for your unique info on this ridiculous thing. Rosey

I've had my symptoms for over 15 months now! And they are getting worse. I don't have as much dizziness but more pain in my ear and TMJ joint. I have lost 60% of my nerve function in my left ear now and am scheduled for a MRI. How long can this last? My ENT doctor said it could take years? Not sure if I can believe that from a viral infection.

viral ear infection
hi everyone, my story started off walking up on 1 saturday morning and to find i couldnt hear anything out of my left ear, my right 1 was fine, but my left was totally death, i was a little concerned but put it down to an ear infection, but thought i would wait till the monday to see the doctor, when the doctor saw me, she said that both my ears looked fine, to say the least it scared the s**t out of me, she did a few simple tests and she couldnt explain why i had gone death in 1 ear, she rang ENT and they gave me an oppointment in the next few days but they told her to put me on a steroid called prednisolone, a strong steroid. whilst waiting for the ENT oppintment i just kept thinking im death, what am i going to do, i am only 30! i was so upset about it. its the most horrible sensation ive ever had, i could only hear out of 1 ear, which made it hard to decipher where noise was coming from and my good ear was very sensitive to loud noise, i was dizzy a few times but nothing bad. i had a hearing test which showed i could hear out of my left ear but it was 25% down on my right, i coulnt hear the low tones, the specialist said there was no fluid's on my ears, my ear drums were fine, so he put it down to a viral infection in my ear tubes (the one that carrys the messages to my brain) he said that the steroid was the right was of helping it, and that it would take time to come back, up to 3 weeks! he booked me in for a MRI scan to make sure there were no blockages etc. but finally 1 week after this terrible virus i can say ive got my hearing back, im so happy. i really did think i wouldnt get it back. im writting this story because i researched it , and looking at all the stories on the internet i was really concerned for myself, i thought the worst. the steroids helped a lot, also i lived with a hot water bottle on my ear, i took vitamin a & c, sudafed and also paracetamol. i hope i never get this illness again, and i feel for the people that do suffer from this, i do realise im very fortunate, compared with a lot of people who get it. 1 thing i will say the steroids do make u want to eat alot, but i dont care if i put a little weight on, compared to not hearing. i hope every 1 gets batter soon, luv kerry x

Hello Everyone,
Yup I had a viral ear infection as well. It started with dizziness then tough/sore neck. Then I could walk at all and was getting sea sick in my own bed. The next day I went to the doctor and he prescribed medication. Within 4 days I as back at work. Now 2 years later I'm feeling the same affects and will probably see the doctor in 2 more days if it doesn't go away. I always thought my 'shingles' caused it but unsure how it occurs.

Is there ANY hope that i will be ok in a few days?
i cant imagine not being able to snorkel or any of those things u would do on a tropical island... let alone not being able to get on the plane to go there.
seeing all these posts doesn't exactly inspire one to be hopeful Sad
