Viral Ear Infection
okay, so i went to the walk-in clinic like...2 or 3 days ago, because i was suffering from nausea, fatigue and loss of appetite. The doc said i had an inner ear infection (which, what he said, is a virus). But what REALLY stumps me is that about a week ago (BEFORE the nausea or anything), i became constipated. Thats getting better, i think, but then last night i had diahrrea...i dont get it! please help.

Same Diagnosis
I too have had this same problem. Finally went to walk in clinic yesterday, and was diagnosed with and inner ear infection. Given a prescription for Neomycin/Cortisone ear drops and Myclizine. I took one of the vertigo pills, and it made me so drowsy, that it was worse than the vertigo I was experiencing.
I have had this for awhile now and it is really beginning to get me down. Cannot really function. Was glad to read others have this problem too, as I was starting to worry that something was really wrong with me.
I guess I just have to wait it out.

Not a virus
Hi All!
well I went to the specialist, who is ordering an MRI, he thinks perhaps i might of suffered a small stroke due to a major bloodloss during the birth of my son.??? I dont think thats likely since my dizziness started 3 weeks later, HOWEVER i made a dentist appointment b/c my face has been swollen around my eyes and im getting alot of face and jaw pain lately STILL DIZZY, anyway my dentist specializes in TMJ disorders and hes saying that 80% of my symptoms including the dizziness is jaw related, which is making way more sence. I clench my teeth all the time and its possible ive thrown it out during childbirth and those 3 weeks of stress new baby etc....Hes making me a guard to wear 24/7 to help my jaw muscles heal and bring the jaw away from my ears....ill keep you posted...

inner ear viral infection
I first got symptoms of really bad vertigo in November 2008. It is now the end of February 2009 and I still have vertigo but not as bad. It varies in intensity. After a brain scan etc... showed nothing I was diagnosed with an inner ear viral infection. According to my GP although doctors say the problem clears in about two weeks, she has had quite a few patients in which it can last for several months or longer. Am posting this in case someone is freaked out that they still have symptoms. It will eventually clear but can take months to do so. Mine has been so bad that I have had to walk with a cane at times but it is getting better (after three months).

Ear Infection?
Hey
Im only 17 and i have had dizziness and vertigo for about 3 months now. I went to my GP and she said it was probably labrynthisis, which is an ear infection but didnt even check my ears! She said it would clear up in a few weeks but i still have it. Its really worrying me that i will never get rid of this! If it is an ear infection, but it sounds like most people's symptoms on here. Ive also had trouble with my hearing, tinnutis and sore throat. Does this make anyone else's eyes feel weird? Like unfocused or blurry?

Ear Infection
Reading all of the messages made me feel thankful my ear infection is not bad at all compared to what it could have been. I got a cold with a fever, and then two days later started feeling painful pressure in my left ear. Had it for two weeks now. I was able to get rid of the pain using garlic and colloidal silver, but it the ear is still congested, and I still have trouble hearing. Never had vertigo, dizziness, or panic attacks, very thankful for that. I am able to run 13 miles a day and then work as a computer programmer, but I can tell that the strength is still lacking. I raced a 15 K on Saturday and finished about 3-4 minutes slower than I normally do. But at least I can run and work.

Ear Virus
Hello

I am still having shooting pain in inner ear which is like an electrical current sapping me, especially when i swallow. However for the last week i have been taking the natural remedy olive leaf to boast my imune system and think i am starting to feel a little better. My energy levels have increased with no quite so many off balance spells. This has all been going on for 6 weeks now. It all stared with a pain in my shoulder and then my jaw. Yes i sure got the blurry vision too like dizzyrach and felt in a clear white space.mmm i have had it long enough.

Dizziness, Deafness, Anxiety Attacks
I've been suffering from a condition called Menieres Disease for about 10 yrs now. Alot of what you people are saying is what I've suffered. Dizziness so bad that it made me vomit and sweat badly. Loss of hearing ringing or a fuzzing sound in the ear are all symptoms of Menieres Disease. Have your doctor run tests for this csuse its ery hard to detect. My specialist told me that the dizziness attacks will burn them selves out oer time but I will never regain my hearing. I;ve learned to deal with it, and so has my family. I hope this bit of info can be useful to some, and I wish you all the best

Showers.
I sometimes wonder if ear infections can be caught from a shower head which is an ideal breeding ground for germs. Probably best to run the water very hot for a while!

Ear Virus
I've had two months of dizziness, motion sickness, pressure on my head and ears, upset stomach, diarhea, nausea, ear aches, loss of appetite, and much more. It all started when I was out on a cold night in January and I felt very cold air go into my ear and now it's that ear that is causing all the problems. I'm so depressed, i've been suffering from this since last week of january. Does anyone know how long this will last? I've seen six doctors including two ear, nose and throat specialists and all they tell me is it's a virus, give it time. They gave me pills to cope with the dizziness, but it doesn't help. I've been off work for a while now, i'm unable to do things because i feel dizzy all the time. ANyone have this??? How long?

Inner ear viral infection
Hi All
Since February 2009 I have been suffering from something like off-balance, disorientation not sure if I can call it dizziness or vertigo. My symptons are like a rocking, swaying effect which makes me off-balanced. Visited my GP and he prescribed stemetil for 7 days as I found no difference he put me on cinnarazine. I took that for 10 days with no joy.
I went to an ENT who asked me to do an MRI scan and some blood tests which were all normal. He suspects its Labyrintitis and put me on Serc-16 for a month and asked me to do some physiotherapy - Cawthorne-Cooksey and Brand-Hoff exercises.

3 weeks after the ENT's medication I feel still feel off-balanced and its difficult to focus/concentrate. I was off-sick from work for over 2 weeks but as things didn't seem to get I thougt the best was to get back to work and try and fight this!!

I have to visit the ENT for some further tests in 2 weeks time.

Does anyone have any answers? This entire experience is so depressing and frustrating you can't just get on with your normal life.

I have found this forum very useful and see many people having similiar symptoms.

It's shame after all the medical technology we have the doctors can't diagnose anything and we have to keep suffering so long.

It's looks its a long healing process and we just have to hang there.

I hope you all have a speedy recovery.

Hi CPMFern
I hear ya. I have all the same symtoms. I'm going to see a nautropathic doctor, friends of my mom who had this said that acupuncture really helped. Plus, they have natural medicines that can help. I'm going to give it a try. But you are right, it's hard to live a normal life. I've tried to go back to work but I get too off balance and then I have to come back home and rest. All i do is rest at home and it's so depressing. What can we do? I've seen six doctors and two specialists and they are all convinced that's what i'm experiencing is an ear virus. They tell me to wait it out. I'm even trying anti-biotics but so far I feel the same. Do you get headaches? I get a lot of pusling in my ears and head? Also how did you get this? Hopefully we will get better soon so we can get back to our lives!

Inner Ear viral infection
Hi Dizzygirl

It's great to hear from you. At least I know I'm not the only person suffering out there. It's very difficult with this condition as everyone thinks your fine as you look ok but the truth is you're not and you feel you're going through hell.

The ENT told me he suspects Labyrinthis but he’s still not sure. I do get headaches at times but I guess it’s the side-effects of Serc-16.

My symptoms are constant 24/7, off-balance and I feel it from the time I wake up in the morning. But I don’t have symptoms like nausea or motion sickness. In fact, traveling by train or car doesn’t make it worse, it’s just not noticeable. I’m not sure how I got it, I just got up one morning in February 2009 and felt I was off-balanced. I wish the ENT had answers to how it is caused as I feel I need an explanation.

What medication are you on and did the ENT specialists you visit give you any diagnosis apart from an “Inner Ear Virus”? Do you know how you got this? What’s with the antibiotics doesn’t look like you got any relief? Labyrintitis can be caused by a bacteria or a virus. If it’s a bacterial infection antibiotics help, if it’s a viral there’s not much we can do and as doctors say just wait it. Did you try physiotheraphy at all? I did the Cawthorne-Cooksey exercises and they did help a bit.

I was thinking about acupuncture but I’m still not sure about it. Do let us know what the naturopathic doctor recommends and if you go for acupuncture how you feel.

As far as what I read we need to be patient with this virus as it takes few weeks to months depending on individuals, each case to case is different.

Ear virus
Hi CPMFern,

The meds I have been taken are serc-24 and I did try antiboitics to see if this would go away but it didn't. So it is all viral. The specialists say it's an ear virus and that the ear takes it's time but they said it does go away I just have to be patient. I got this on a cold day, i felt cold air enter my ear and to be honest if i wasn't out that day i think i'd be fine today. The doctors never recommended physiotherap to me, they told me to just wait it out as it will clear up. I'm going to see the naturopathic doctor Thursday so I will let you know if it helps. By the way - do you have kids or a family? a job? have you been able to work or take care of your family? I"m unable to work, i constantly feel sick and off balance. I had to take a leave for now. How long have you had this? It's been 10 weeks for me.

Inner Ear Viral Infection
Hi Dizzygirl

Looks like we are on similar medication only diff. is that I am on Serc-16 (3 times a day) and you are on a higher dosage (Serc-24). What’s your dosage for Serc-24?
Do you feel very dizzy or is it just off-balance and difficulty to focus/concentrate?
Do you feel dizzy if you move your eyes/head up and down and then right to left? How bad is your dizziness?

I have a family and fortunately my parents live round the corner to where I live so I get help. What about you?

I went back to work this Friday after being off-sick for over 3 weeks. I have had this virus for nearly 7 weeks. I can’t work long hours so I’ve started doing shorter days till this virus clears up but I get tired very fast. Does traveling affect your condition?

Hi cpmfern,
I'm on the meds 3 times per day, although since i am home and off work my doctor says to take the meds only when i need them. I take them 1 to 2 times per day. I feel as if I am moving, swaying back and forth, rocking back and forth, when i move my head side to side, i feel as if i am moving. ALso looking up and down is terrible for me. I do feel off balance as well. I am tired often, I can't work because they are 8 hour shifts constantly using the computer and it makes me so dizzy and tired. Travelling, i don't really travel, i can't drive because of this. I usually get my parents to drive me places if i need to go, doctor appoinments etc. My boyfriend also helps. I do live at home so it's ok. But it's so depressing, i've had this for 10 weeks now and it feels like it's always the same.

I hope this goes away soon for the both of us. I'm missing out on my life!

Hi Fern,

Also do you get bad headaches? I get a lot of pulsing sensations on my temples and in my ears, it's so irritating and frustrating.

I also had an anxiety attach the other night, do you get those as well?

I had some blood work done and my white blood cells were high, because my doctor says it's my body is fighting off a virus. Do you have this problem as well in your blood work?

Let me know,
Thanks.
