I've have been diagnosed with severe depression/anxiety. My question is, can it cause other side effects such as forgetfulness, joint pain and other symptoms I can't remember at the moment. I have to write down everything or walk into the room repeating whatever it is that I am going in there to get. I'm only 36 yrs old so I don't think my mind should be going quit this soon! Wondering if I could possibly be my meds. My doctor refuses to switch them because they are working fairly well for me. Perhaps it was the blond highlights I had put in my hair last week. Haha! I admit that really made me laugh unfortunately I dont think it was the blonde highlights...(i hope not I just had some put in my hair!) despite the fact that many studies have been done of the effects of depression on the body there are limitless possibilities. To be honest I have never heard of forgetfullness cause by depression but it may be caused by the meds. You may want to talk to your doctor (regular gp) about the forgetfullness you seem to be having. As for joint pain I haven't heard of that either although i'm sure its a possibility. I get violently ill when I get depressed so I dont see why other physical symptoms cant occur. I'm soorry im not being bery helpful.....Hope everything works out

all I can say is that as soon as I got off of anti-deprerssants my forgetfullness went awat in a matter of weeks. Coincidence? I'm not sure. Meds never gave me any joint pain though.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replys. (at least most of them) went to my doctor today and found out that my hips are out of alignment, caused by my scoliosis, which is causing all my other aches and pains. He didn't agree with the meds I am currently taking either because they are both mood stabilizers and I need an anti-depressant for my depression. Finally a doctor who will listen to me thank god! Thanks again. What a great day. Wink

Stacey,

glad to hear your doc was able to help you :d I was on anti-depressants etc for years before I discovered cbt and was cured and off all meds and feeling better than ever in a short period of time. It takes some effort but is worth it if you want to feel better and be free of meds.

Take care!

Forgetfulness
I read your posting and I too have major depression/anexity and I did notice I have been forgetful lately so maybe it is a sympton of depression. I don't know. Regarding the joint pain, I have stomach pain, probably from not eating and I have shoulder pain probably from stress. So maybe your joint pain is from stress from being depressed.

Hi stacey,
yes! Forgetfulness, loss of concentration, and inability to make decisions are side effects of depression!!! Don't worry, you are not alone- and it can be very frustrating. I was in your same shoes and just in my 30's too. Medication has helped my depression but not my forgetfulness. I just use post-it notes and write everything down. It also sounds to me like you may need a different docter, one who specializes in psychiatry. So good luck.- jackie
