I had a fna yesterday and during the procedure my neck started to swell. Well they had to cancel the biopsy, has anyone ever had this happen? Oh, yes they also found 2 more nodules on my left side.

I saw your post about the needle biopsy. How are you doing now? Did they find anything. I found a lump on my neck last week. I think it is hypothyroidism and goiter. The doctor sent me for a blood test but it shows I am normal. I am going for an ultrasound next wednesday, and from what I have read a needle biopsy would be next. I did read that sometimes the anesthia they give for that (lidocane-i think) can cause swelling. Did you have that first? Thanks.

Hi jan. Yes I had an allergic reaction to the ladicane and to make matters worse I had a small heimridge(i think) from a punctured vessell. Boy did this scare the hell out of the doctor who was performing the procedure because he has never seen this happen before. Afterwards my husband looked at me and said only you  well I had to go back in on the 8th for another biopsy and this time they put me off in a twi-lite sleep. I have received a call from my doctor telling me that she would like me to see a surgeon :( my test came back abnormal, she said that it could be 3 things, a benign tumor, colloid nodule, or the worst fear cancer  I have an appointment with a doctor who specializing in thyroid disease on the 26th to see what comes next. I hope that everything goes well with your ultrasound. Let me know what comes from it.

I wonder if I can request that twi-lite sleep for mine. Would be nice. Did your neck hurt afterward? I'm hoping they say that mine is just my thyroid - that I am hypo, since I have a lot of the symptoms of that. And thats something they can treat. Cancer is always the big scare. But you know the chances are slim for that. I think its about 10 percent. I have a couple lumps also in the armpits. I didn't even find them till after I went to the doctor for the one in my throat. So that worries me also. And then they wait so long for your appointments and make you worry in the meantime.

Did you have an ultrasound first? And then did they decide to do the needle biopsy?

The 2nd biopsy was very interesting, they gave me 10 mg. Of volume to try and keep my nerves down(didn't work) my neck hurt more with the 1st biopsy than it did on the 2nd one.

The way this all came to light was because I had an earache and went to the doctors. She said that she thought my thyroid was large, so they took blood(came back normal) and then sent me for an ultrasould. They located a 2cm nodule on my right side. I was then sent to have the radio-active biospy done. Well it came back that I had a cold nodule. This is when I was sent to have the biopsy.

Do you ever get the feelings that the doctors know more than they tell you? I just got a strange feeling that my doctor knows more than she is telling me.

Doctors
Actually, I feel its not that they aren't telling you something. My thoughts are more like they don't know as much as they let on they know! I don't put a lot of stock in doctors. I like to do my own research just to make sure. And doctors sometimes go for one treatment or procedure when there are others. Its best to be informed.

Have you ever been diagnosed with hypothyroid? I am pretty sure I have it although my blood has come back normal. But i've read that it can happen. I have all the symptoms. Tired, dry skin & nails, hair falling out. If I take my temperature 1st thing in the am its always low. Around 97.6 and thats typical with hypo. And this lump is my neck is a symptom of that.

I don't have the symptons of being hypothyroid. My nodule is very tender to the touch and I have the feeling of something being stuck in my throat.

I have done my own research on the 3 things that she it can be, so far surgery is possibly in my future. I'm not worried about that, it's just that I hate waiting for things.

You are a braver person than me (or is it i?). Surgery and all that scares me. But if it takes care of the problem I am all for it! I have been watching what I eat. I read that some veggies like broccoli are bad for you. And caffeine. So no coffee for me, just decaf tea, caffeine free pop and water for now. Now to just quit smoking. Yuk!! Tomorrow is my ultrasound. Hopefully they will say its just a bi-product of hypo but we will see. I'll keep you posted.

It's funny that you said, that you need to try and quit smoking. I've been almost smoke free for 1 year now and I swear that I haven't been so sick  my sister says that it's my body getting rid of all the residue.

I may sound brave now, but the day of the sugery(if happens) I will be a nervous wreck.

I wish you luck tomorrow!!

Apes, how did your doctor appt go?

I got my results back from my ultrascan and it shows I have a nodule. Duh, like I didn't know that already :( now, they say I need a test where they put radioactive iodine in you and check it. Have you had this one? I don't like the idea of them putting redioaction gunk in my body. I haven't scheduled it. I tried calling a couple endo doctors and 1doesnt take new patients and the other one said I could come in november!! Like I am waiting till then. I hate doctors. I guess I will schedule the iodine test with my regular doctor and see what happens from there.

Hey april. How is it going? Did you see the surgeon?

I know what you mean about waiting. After my ultrasound, the doc - after I called her 3 times - says she submitted the paperwork and they would send me a letter after checking my insurance to schedule the iodine thing. Still waiting..... In the meantime, I have called several endos in the area and some aren't even taking new patients and 1 said november & 2 said sept. So I made an appointment with both docs in sept. But when & if I ever get these papers I will go ahead with the iodine thing thru my regular doctor just to speed things up. I can't believe they can make you wait a month or more to see them. If it was them or their family you know they wouldn't play the waiting game.

Keep me posted. Hope everything is ok.

Jan, sorry I didn't know that I received a reply from you. Well I have to have surgery on the 9th of sept. My fna came back that I have follicular lesions on my thryoid. This could be benign or maligent, of course we are hoping for benign. I have since then been put on xanex for my nerves, i've been crying at the drop of a hat or biting everyones head off. I will keep you posted.

Thyroid Nodules
Had an ultrasound on Monday, which shows I have 8 to 10 nodules on my thyroid. Wondering if anyone has an idea on how they treat this many?
