Q: Vitamin E Absorption

I am 16 years old and have just started taking a small selection of supplements. These include: omega 3, ginkgo & ginseng, phosphatidyl serine and vitamin e. They are all designed to keep me mentally alert and they seem to be working (although this could be the placebo effect....). I recently saw a documentary on the truth about vitamins (horizon) and it mentioned that taking vitamin e without certain lipids (fats) prevents absorption into the body. Does anyone know if the fatty acids contained within the omega 3 or any of the other supplements I am taking provide a high enough level of fats to stop me needing to take them with food?
Also does anyone know of any negative effects of what I am taking?
All the supplements I am taking are products of healthspan uk.

Thanks
paul

The main negative is that when you begin to take too much of these supplements, they will store in your fat cells and can cause major illness.

Some very interesting studies have been done involving the mega-dosing and regular dosing of vitamin e for cardio-vascular health and the finding were actually shocking to many! Escecially to the physicians that had been telling cardiac patients to take vitamin e supplements, it actually caused damage to the heart muscle along with atrophy around the surrounding tissue and even helped in cloging up arteries in at risk patients.

Before you should start with any supplementation you need to get your diet under-control and figure out how many of the necessary vitamins you are consuming each day and then begin to look into a simple multi-vitamin for supplementation.

I implore you not to let some vitamin salesman trick you into believeing that you at the age of 16 need to be taking anymore then a simple multi, and that is only if you are not eating or are a strict vegan. If you are a vegan, you need to go to a dietition that has a degree from somewhere other then a matchbook cover that allows them to sells company-x brand vitamins to their many unsuspecting friends and relatives only to have to turn to the internet and begin advertising the snake oil they sell because friends and family avoid these snake like sales people because all they want to do is sell you more and more vitamins until one day you will sign up and sell vitamins for them!

Once you balance out your diet and incorperate fish, beef, pork, tons of fresh veggies and fruits, whole grain pasta, breads, cereals and look at your total intake of calories vs. Your expenditure of calories along with vitamin/mineral content of your foods. You will be amazed, you don't need fish oil or vit e and probably do not need a multi either.
