Tingling In Shoulder, Tight Neck Posted: 06-27-05 18:32pm
I have neck and shoulder pain. I saw my
chiro today and he said that the nerves
under my collar bone are very compressed.
Any insight? I've been in hell.

this could possibly be due to a problem
called repetative stress injury. It
happens to people who do a lot of
computer, cashier work. Any type of work
that uses one hand and arm for repetative
motions. On the other hand it could be
due to a number of other problems, but it
is hard to tell based on the answer you
received from your chiro.
All muscles have mega nerves running
through them. Muscle can be affected by
compressed nerve roots (they are the
nerves that exit from the spinal column)
and/or muscle can also be affected by
spasm - the spasm will compress nerves
running though the muscle.
Both of these problems can be the result
of small or large problems in the spine
and good chiro treatment should release
them.
Chances are that the pain under your
collar bone is coming from a bigger
problem in your back and can be the cause
of neck pain.
If possible have someone put just a little
bit of oil (vegetable oil will do) on your
back between and around your shoulder
blades, and upper shoulder muscles. Have
them slowly run their thumbs up and around
the inside of the shoulder blades and see
if they hit any "hot" spots (painful
areas). They may have to go over the area
several times using greater pressure.
You will know if they find any because
once they hit one you will jump out of
your skin. Don't neglect the area at the
back where your arm connects to your back.
You can actually try this area yourself.
Lift your arm up and slowly but firmly
run your fingers down from the back from
where your arm connects to your back.
There's a group of muscles that "end" in
that small area and if you find that to be
a sore spot you will know you are having
muscle problems in the larger muscle
groups of your upper back.
Dont worry about this especially if you do
a lot of computer/mousing work, or cachier
- anything that uses repetative hand and
arm movement - it is easily remedied.
But, if that is the case don't neglect
this problem. It becomes a major cause
of all types of back and spine conditions
if left undertreated because that type of
work causes scar tissue to develop in the
muscles and that may be what you find
(little hard painful spots) when your
friend checks out your back.
While healing, and to help yourself heal
faster, use ice for 10 mins on the areas
of your back if you located painful spots,
then use heat for 30-40 mins, do that 2-3
times in a row and your pain will lessen
considerably. Ice is not just for use on
trauma/inflammed tissue - heat/ice draws
in the blood and sends it away which
considerably hastens the release of toxic
chemicals that have built up and which is
the possible cause of your pain.
Important: :!: make sure you don't place
the heat anywhere on the spine. If you
have compression/inflammation of the nerve
roots you will only cause worse
inflammation and more pain.
Flush the muscles, like this, as often as
you can maybe 2 or 3 times a day.
I can direct you to a great site with some
unusually truthful information about back
and neck pain you won't find anywhere
else, but I can't put it here because it
also sells a pain relief product - so if
you want more info send me a private
message and I will be happy to direct you
to it.
Here's to a pain free life
