Q: Enlarged Spleen

Does anyone know the symptoms of an enlarged spleen? Is upper left back pain associated with an enlarged spleen? I'm wondering because I was diagnosed with mono about 4 months ago. I recently have been sick with cold like symptoms and have had severe upper left back pain and can sometimes feel it under my left ribs, but not all the time. It feels like I pulled a muscle but I haven't done any strenuous activity. I was wondering if it could be my spleen since I have mono and am now sick.

Rupture

You can have pain from an enlarged spleen left upper but if it's acute you have to watch out for spleen rupture...It can get so enlarged it can tear and the spleen is a bleeder and you have to be careful of signs of internal bleeding such as rapid heart rate, weakness...You might want to get checked out

Thanks for the reply. My doctor said it was enlarged. But it stopped hurting soon after I got over my cold. I didn't get a chance to ask my doc. But do you think that the spleen is always enlarged if you have mono. Or is it more suseptible to enlargement when you have mono and it reflares, like when I was sick with the cold?
