Q: Too Old to Get Pregnant?

I'm 45 and got pregnant twice this year...Because mainly my ob/gyn said I didn't have to do anything "fancy" for b/c any more--and last fall I miscarried at 7 weeks (no surprise) and had a d&c, and the odd thing was I felt fine the first few days and then wham! About three days afterward I had such pain---did that happen to anyone else?
He said to expect skipped periods by this age. So the second time, when I skipped my period I didn't worry, now i'm at 5 weeks pg yet feel like i'm miscarrying again. I don't want any more children obviously at this age, but am surprised that I was being told that women my age hardly ever get pregnant when they do, even with common b/c measures.
I'm a bit relieved, there's so many potential problems with pregnancy at this age, and I cannot fathom why young women put off pregnancy...The risks exponentiate after even age 35, for the baby as well as the mom.
Now, I have cramps, nausea, the pregnancy symptoms have gone away, no bleeding, yet...Though it feels like i'm going to have a huge painful situation to deal with in a day or two... I think I have some percocets from my teenager's wisdom tooth extraction left over...
I had three normal pregnancies in my twenties and hadn't been pregnant since! What gives? We're doing the same old same old!
I had never had a miscarriage before, either, so actually this is new to me. Bit scared...Been reading the other posts.
One day, young ladies...You too will face the end of your reproductive years, and it's very strange, for it's a stage one presumes will go on forever. So, don't put off motherhood until it's panic time...I know there are women in their forties just trying for their first babies, and it's fraught with dangers all around.
Well, i'm just venting because i'm nervous myself. Any older gals gone through anything like this? Thanks.

Menstruating Means Fertile
You just have to assume that if you're menstruating you're fertile

if you're older you can conceive almost as easily, but you know eggs "age out" and they don't divide too great after even age 35, more miscarriages

so, you can get pregnant, just can't stay pregnant very easily...
40-somethings are the second wave of unplanned pregnancies (after teens and early twenties), perhaps this is because women assume they are no longer fertile (wrong!)
