I was diagnosed with tmj when I was 15, after spending pretty much my entire life suffering symptoms such as sensitive teeth and jaw cracking/pain. I had a full mouth splint for my top teeth and that worked for a while but I kept grinding badly. I tried a second splint that went on my four top front teeth. That worked for a few months then I ground a line into it. My gums then started bleeding so I thought I wasn't cleaning properly, went to the dentists and discovered that it wasnt normal to have to push my one of my bottom teeth (that I ground down on with the splint) back into place each morning, and that the bleeding was cos my teeth were shifting around by themselves. I have had braces put on, and will have to have 8 teeth taken out. My bodys obviously badly thrown out by my jaw, which even my dentist was surprised at how quickly it degenerated in the few months between my visits. My front teeth dont meet at all, and my top back teeth all but cover my bottom teeth. Ive also had to have two teeth filled because of how much id ground away. However, ive also always suffered joint problems, before I knew I had tmj every year just about I had a joint that was always sore - but no tests could find anything and doctors told me to see a psychiatrist. Ive noticed now, especially after the braces, that when I ground badly I get joint pain. I often have no pain in my jaw joint. The braces only hurt the night after they were put on and the teeth themselves hurt when I ate, but ive had really sore joint pains ever since - and they grind and crunch. Ive never been able to eat properly, and this probably hasnt helped. Ive had tests for arthritis and again nothing. If I didnt know beter id say I have tmj in all my other joints! Does anyone else get this too, and if not does anyone think that it could be my jaw causing the problems? Thanks
