Why is it doctors first choice of nsaid's indomethacin? This drug takes 4 hours to take affect, then after another 2 hours the full affect takes place to reduce pain.

I normally take indomethacin 75mg 2x day for acute gout. Today, as usual pain started during the early hours in the morning, while still in bed, it was unbearable, so I took nurofen plus...Wow! The effect was immediate and guess what...

...No dizziness, drowsiness, or palpitation. So, I dont really understand why doctors like to prescribe indomethacin, its useless.

When I had gout and I first started using indomethacin, it worked like a miracle drug. But over time, like every other prescription and alternative gout remedy that I tried, it began to lose its effectiveness.

What finally got rid of my gout permanently and completely was getting rid of my sleep apnea. In all likelihood, you also have sleep apnea, particularly because your gout attacks develop while you are sleeping. Don't ignore getting tested for and getting rid of sleep apnea while seeking to find some miracle cure for your gout. Even if you use a medication to overcome your gout, as I have found out, sleep apnea can really harm you in so many ways if allowed to continue for a long time. You can find more information about the sleep apnea/gout connection in my post from march 05 on this website.

I did not get relief from indocin either. I did get dizzy from it though.

My doctor put me on sulindac and I find that it works like a champ. I start taking it at the first sign of a flare, and I find that after a couple of doses, things are fine.
