Q: Help For Niece Who Might Have Eating Disorder

Hi,

recently, my niece had a tonsilectomy and six days later began hemmoraging while standing in my yard outside. I rushed her to the hospital. Over an hour later, and 6 pans of blood later, they decided to operate on her because they could not stop the bleeding. At the hospital, my sister said something about the fact that she was actually bleeding from her esophagus and not where her tonsils were removed. It got me thinking about other things that I think may be going on with my niece.

I have suspected for a little while now that she might have an eating disorder. She is very thin, moody, and I noticed she spends a lot of time in the bathroom after meals. I think she may be purging. My question is this: could the bleeding that she experienced the other day at my house be related to an eating disorder? I have heard of varices of the esophagas. Is this related to eating disorders? Could there be a connection?

I want to get more information before I approach my sister about the potential danger my niece may be in.

Thank you so much for your help.
