Um...I hate to say this....
You are supposed to avoid soft serve
ice-cream during pregnancy for the same
reasons as soft cheese, pate, etc.
There is a high risk of soft serve
containing harmful bacteria (sorry) it's
one of those high risk foods (i'm so
sorry)- especially if it is coming from an
ice-cream van or whatever.
I once heard that the safest place to buy
soft serve ice-creams from was mcdonalds,
because they are reknowned for sanitising
and cleaning their equipment, but that it
was still not recommended to take the
chance during pregnancy.
I guess if it's a craving of yours, or you
simply must have some-or it's keeping you
awake or whatever (that can happen with
cravings, so i've heard) then maybe at
least get it from mcdonalds, or somewhere
you know for sure the are fastidious about
cleaning.
If it makes you feel any bettter, I know
how you feel- I was missing my salami,
ricotta, brie and pate something terrible,
and was thanking god I could at least have
some fetta in my salads(under the
impression this was a hard cheese) after
researching again, if found out it's on
the "give up" list too. On top of that
there's the coffee and cigarettes i've had
to give up, and i'd kill for a few cold
beers!!!!

Update: research say that soft serve ice
creams from mcdonald's turns out to be the
healthiest among all that's being served
there. The soft serve was being made from
all natural ingredients. Just don't
overdo it. Eat in moderation.

Yep, my doctor told me this in my first
pregnancy, and I noticed it's listed in
the literature I was given this time
'round also.
It has a high risk of containing bacteria,
as it's dairy, and, alot of times vendors
are not as careful as they could be about
cleaning out their machines, and storing
the mixture etc. Also, alot of times, the
mixture which is already frozen in the
machine is not thrown out, as it should
be, but pumped through, and put back into
the unfrozen mixture, alowed to thaw
overnight, and then poured back into the
machine the next morning, to be re-frozen
abnd served. Risky risky risky ( I know
this happens, and i've actually seen it
being done myself- when I worked in
mcdonalds as a teenager, and they are
supposed to be the most reliable- so I
dread to think what's going on elsewhere)
alot of people get food poisoning from it
too, and therefore it is considered to
risky for pregnant women to eat.
