Recently I have seen ads on television and online for a new non-prescription mineral form of lithium. (serenity™) does anyone have any personal experience with this product?
My son is bipolar, but does not want to take prescription medications. I'm desperate to find something that might help him. I just don't want to try something that might make his rages worse.
Please help, if you have any personal experience or knowledge of this stuff. Thanks!

It sounds interesting. I wonder if it works? I would be very curious to learn more about this also.

Along this same line... Anyone know of homeopathic treatments for bipolar disorder using herbs or vitamins?

And does bipolar get better ot worse with age?

My son was diagnosed bi-polar a year ago. He ended up being hospitalized for a week. He was on prescription drugs for about 4 months and he could not function as a whole person. I looked into alternatives and was amazed as to what I found out. Bi-polar is a nutritional deficiency.I talked to a mom whose daughter has gotten great results so my son tried the same.He takes a patented balanced nutritional supplement. He has been off prescription drugs for over 6 months and is a full time student at the local junior college with a 4.0 average and working part-time. He is the son I always wanted and when he turned l6 he started with the problems. He is now 22. I hope I can help change someones life because I know what it is like to live with someone and how bad they feel with this.

Non-prescription Drugs
Anything listed as an herb or supplement is not subjected to the same scrutiny as prescription drugs. Basically, they can put together anything they want and call it an herbal remedy. Some of these things can interact with each other, foods, alchohol, and prescription drugs, but because it is herbal, they dont have to test it or warn you about it. Don't get me wrong, i'm all about holistic medicine but in combination with a doctors care and prescriptions, if necessary. If you find a good doctor they will have some knowledge of reported herbs that are helpful or hurtful and their interactions with bi-polar and other medications.

Always tell your doctor what supplements you are taking, even if they don't ask. There have been some articles and books written about herbal drugs and their interactions, any healthfood store or major book store might carry or be albe to order these for you.

Good luck

Well, after doing alternatives for 15 years, i'm back on meds again. Nothing helped much. It all depends on the individual and if you have a mild form of anything, alternative remedies are very helpful. Not for full-blown mania, though! Good luck, light2dark

I totally disagree with treating bp with herbs, vitamins or minerals. When I was first diagnosed I didn't want to be on anymeds so I treated it myself with sam-e ... It made me very manic. Later ... A friend suggested fish oils to try and balance my moods ... I got very sick physically and mentally.

A person with bp just needs to overcome the fact that they need to be on medication and see a psychiatrist. I went through it and I would think that most others with this illness have done the same.
