Q: Spotting When Skipping Period!!

Hello everyone,
i've been taking alesse for 2 years now and have successfully skipped my period several times in the past. 6 months ago, however, I ended up spotting (unless if it was a very light period) for an entire month! I thought it was unrelated to my skipped period because the spotting occured almost 2 months later, but now i'm finding myself in a similar situation.
I skipped the sugar pills from my last pack and my period should have ended yesterday. But last night I noticed a very light brown clumpy discharge much like the month-long one I had before! I really don't want to go through that again, especially because my boyfriend is afraid of blood and won't have sex if i'm spotting at all. :(
so, is there anything I can do to ensure that this spotting/period goes away quickly?! I'm currently in my 3rd week of the active pills, so would I still be protected from pregnancy if I stopped taking my active pills until I get a period again?

Please help!!! I'm really worried i'm in a for another month of bleeding! :(

thanks, maliaka
