Breast Biopsy Posted: 11-14-03 14:54pm
I hope somebody can answer some questions
for me. I am a 47 year old mother of
three grown children. I have no breast
cancer in my family. I recently had a
mammogram after not having one for six
years. I was told on report that I needed
to have a ultrasound. Mammogram report
said it showed a 1 cm heterogenous nodule
, increased from prior exam, it said may
be lymp node. After ultrasound, report
read images failed to demonstrate a small
nodule seen in the upper outer quadrant of
right breast. It noted it had a slightly
heterogeneous character and would not be
surprised if it was a hamartoma. In
order to prove this, and suspicion is
relatively low, stereotatic biopsy with
mammo was recommened. This lump could
not be felt. Birad category iv. What
did all this mean? I had the stereotatic
biopsy. Which was very painful unlike
everything I had read. Part way through I
almost came off the table and the surgeon
kept saying he was sorry. I was told by
nurses the report would be in his office
in about two days. The surgeon also told
my husband it would be about two days
before anything was know. His biopsy was
done on monday, it is now friday and I
still do not know anything. What could
this mean? His office told me on wed. It
would be fridaynow they still don't have
the report. I am going crazy.
