Guys, Im a 26 year old true anxiety sufferer. My dad is a physician and he also has anxiety disorder. I had every test known to man done to me. EGD's, Blood work, etx etx... Its all anxiety, and the throat situations are linked to anxiety, but guys and gals, its also 85% reflux... It causes a mucus build up around the esophogial passage, because of the extra acid. The food bubbling up in your throat causes your throat to contract pushing it back down. I feel this way all the time after I eat. I have determined several things to cure my anxiety and I want to share them with you. Medication: Cymbalta changed my life!!!!
Relaxation: Its not going to kill you..
You have to know that what you have is because of stress and things going on in your life. Keep it out in the open. DO NOT BOTTLE THEM UP... It makes them much worse..

Breathing will become easy with biomechanical feedback.
Take a deep breath hold it for 5 secs and exhale and hold it for 5 sec. Do this 20 times 3 times a day or if you feel anxious.

Anxiety lays at the root of depression. GO SEE YOUR DR. and get some medication.. SSRI.... It changed my life!

Thanks guys..

Look if you need any help, you can write me.

Thanks!

Matt

I have been having the same symptoms for 8 weeks (since I had a really bad panic attack). I've been to several doctors, ENT specialists, several tests including x-rays. They say that I am having throat spasms which are caused by anxiety.

If you take muscle relaxer, the feeling should go away.

The problem is, I'm trying to go off the medicine and I keep getting this same feeling (it's usually worse at night time).

I'm really looking for a natural medicine that can help this feeling go away.

Please help!

Ativan?
Hello all;

I was just wondering what ativan was? Is it similar to Xanax? I've been taking this supplement called Persen. It's a natural suppl. with Melissa and Vermilian, etc.

I am A 24 year old male that has suffered on and off with this feeling of tightness in the throat. It seems like it is by the adam's apple, kind of where I think the thyroid may be. It almost seems like i can feel the lump get bigger when i touch it with my fingers. I've been to the doctor once and kind he put my mind at ease. I've contributed this feeling to some of the things going on in my life.

The first time this feeling came along was after a traumatic experience. I started having this feeling about a week or so after this trauma had happened, which was considered a sign of Post-Traumatic stress disorder. I chose to read up about stress/anxiety and how to cure it and after a few treatment's of alternative therapy felt much better. I strongly recommend not medicating this feeling with drugs, although I know how scary this can be. I suggest you go to talk to someone about what's going on in your life (therapist, counsellor, mom/dad) as often this stress can be alleviated by finding the underlying issue to this feeling.

I am currently have this feeling of a tight throat now. I was told this could be GERD so I will look at that avenue. I recently had another traumatic experience so i started the same thing, I am getting to the underlying issue, I am addressing this as sort of a PTSD type symptom. So far I am feeling more at ease.

Just remember, this feeling can definitely go away!!! You have to work at it. Address the issues in your life that are making you feel this way. Whether it be stress at work, school or something that is seriously bothering you, this can all affect your anxiety levels, which causes this feeling!!!

Remain positive, I know how scary this is!! Be optimistic, this does go away!! give it your time, this is your body's way of telling you to pay attention to it!!

Incredible book for all you sufferer's. Peter Levine-waking the tiger!!
I strongly recommend it, this book got me understanding why we feel this way and what we can do to stop it! Great read!

throat tightness
i have really enjoyed reading everyones comments on this site. it has helped me tremendisly on worrying about my throat. i have always been a worrier. i stress out about everything and everything is always worst case scenario. i had this going on about three weeks ago and i took an ativan and the stress i was worried about had gotten fixed (my child was sick) then i felt better. then i got it again in about 3-4 more days. somedays is better than others. if i have a glass of wine it relaxes me and i dont feel it. i dont feel it at night either. i dont have tonsils(removed) and i just has a partial thyroidectomy a year ago. and the other one was fine and no cancer was found. i am going to have a barium swallow tomorrow. i know in my head it is prob due to stress but you cant help but worry it is something bad. i did read that usually with cancer in your throat you can not feel it. it is noce having support out there.Smile

You all should start changing your eating habits.
Anxiety is caused by chemical imbalance.
Stop eating process food, eat more fruits and vegetables.
Stop applying chemical to your body, like deodorant, hair spray, cosmetics, etc. These things cause your body immune system to be over burdened.

Go to your health food store and talk to an herbalist.
You have to pay attention about all the things that you put into your body.

Everyone nowadays need to take vitamins and mineral supplements since the food that we eat lack those things.

Have throat problems for 15 years, but it's getting worse.

I start eating, then bang, it clogs. I can't swallow my saliva anymore. Last week, it took me almost 6 hours before the saliva could get through. I can still breathe normally, but I have to spit continuously. I had Gastroscopy, Barryum liquid gloating test, chest X-ray and blood test. All is normal, I have no Chatsky ring, no ulcers, no ernia. The problem is ...they can't find the problem, but I block frequently(usually several times a month).

15 minute episodes were not pleasant, but I could tolerate them. 6 hours is a nightmare, trying to regurgitate, only to have a swelled up throat with which you can't swallow your own saliva. Don't even think about how one feels when you are at a restaurant with people or at a party...

Neck tightening problem
I read through all of these reviews, and I've had similar symptoms with a neck so stiff it's hard to breathe. I am an athlete during the day, and I run and bike and have no problem. Right before I go to bed, I feel like I can hardly breathe. I've also recently had problems with my teeth, where I'm wearing them away because I grind at night. I'm not sure, but you should ask your doctor about whether you have Temporomandibular joint disorder. One other person suggested it on here, and I went to look it up, and I think there's a good chance that's what's causing my problems too.

I ended up getting a night guard to help stop teeth erosion. Perhaps it's just how it props my mouth, but it makes it easier to breathe. It's not the same as opening your mouth because it adjusts where the teeth would fall when you put them under pressure, henceforth adjusting the muscles in the back of your throat. This is also why anxiety makes it worse: this is when you clench your teeth. The night guard might work for you too!

cant take the tight throat anymore, making me a different person. am i depressed because i have a tight throat or do i have a tight throat because im depressed? which came first. get a scary pressure feeling in head too, numbness. i read all this is stress/anxiety related. i was clinically depressed and riddled by anxiety 25 years ago. now its back? was the tight throat and pressures early signs of my 2 week panic attack or was my panic attack brought on by the constant thought on my mind that my pressures/numbness/tight throat was a serious life threating issue? help i cant take it. just want to be normal again

I get a tight throat sensation from mid-afternoon onwards on weekdays. Its like someone is pressing a finger gently below my adams apple.

Ive been to the doctor once and got an antibiotic which seemed to eliviate the problem for a while. I think it may be the combination of stomach acid and stress. The doctor said I eat too late at night (usually I get dinner 8.30pm - 10pm and am in bed for 1am) but I rarely get heartburn.

Unfortunately 3 months later it's back now but to be honest I haven't taken a holiday in over a year and work hard as Im self-employed so Im guessing its stress related even though I dont feel particularly anxious and dont have any relationship problems or any major stress in my life as I see it. That said I do work hard and have demanding clients. It may be the cumulative effect of being on the go for so long.

The symptoms are greatly reduced at weekends but I dont know if thats because I have breakfast much later or because Im more chilled out.

One thing that helps allieviate the symptoms is chewing gum. It helps digest food quicker and prevents acid refluxing back up. The comment earlier about the neck tightning to prevent reflux sounds plausible too.

Ive got a beach holiday booked for 3 weeks time so Im going to hold off going to the doctor again until then.

hi all, yesterday i went to doc an ent doc and narrated the problem what everybody is facing in this forum, believe me it has no treatment although i have been given antibiotics for pharyingitis infection but i must say i have learned to tackle the problem just dont focus on it because the more i get concerned the more i feel it, if iam alone it automatically get triggered, i start swallowing cough and later on i feel the obstruction then i get so frightended i run to narrate my problem to many other people around, then to medicine store for nothing , then consoling myself that it is a psychological disorder, then trying to brup , then gargaling, the entire proccess is making my life hell, but believe me the only time i dont feel it is when iam totally unaware of it,the moment i became aware i start feeling the stuff runing in my throat, after reading all posts here i think lets all undserstand that the only way to get out of this problem is by giving a damn to it.

take care

hi jake, today even i met a ent specialist and after through check up he said it nothing you may be getting reflux, he even asked me to stop taking antibiotics,if nothing is coming out then why iam feeling the choke, buddy let me suggest you to practise raja yoga do some googling, that is a way to relax your mind by concentrating on something out of your physical body, believe me i have seen people focused on something that they stand like statues no one distub them by making any funny gesture , you the trick there is they are not conscious self ,,,,if we can master it may be we will feel more relaxed.

tight throat
Hi all! I have been suffering from anxiety for 5 years now! And having the feeling like my throat is closing is only 1 of the hundred of things that I deal with on an every day base! I hope you all no that you are not dying of throat cancer and that your throat isn't closing and that it is your anxiety and mind cause that feeling to worsen! Your doctors should be testing you all for anxiety disorder and giving you something for panic so that you can take it when that happens. I have been on Xanax now for the last 3 years and it has changed my life. I am able to function without thinking i am dying every second my throat or something feels crazy! anyways best of luck to you all! and know you are all just fine! Smile
