I am A 24 year old male that has suffered on and off with this feeling of tightness in the throat. It seems like it is by the adam's apple, kind of where I think the thyroid may be. It almost seems like i can feel the lump get bigger when i touch it with my fingers. I've been to the doctor once and kind he put my mind at ease. I've contributed this feeling to some of the things going on in my life.
The first time this feeling came along was after a traumatic experience. I started having this feeling about a week or so after this trauma had happened, which was considered a sign of Post-Traumatic stress disorder. I chose to read up about stress/anxiety and how to cure it and after a few treatment's of alternative therapy felt much better. I strongly recommend not medicating this feeling with drugs, although I know how scary this can be. I suggest you go to talk to someone about what's going on in your life (therapist, counsellor, mom/dad) as often this stress can be alleviated by finding the underlying issue to this feeling.
I am currently have this feeling of a tight throat now. I was told this could be GERD so I will look at that avenue. I recently had another traumatic experience so i started the same thing, I am getting to the underlying issue, I am addressing this as sort of a PTSD type symptom. So far I am feeling more at ease.
Just remember, this feeling can definitely go away!!! You have to work at it. Address the issues in your life that are making you feel this way. Whether it be stress at work, school or something that is seriously bothering you, this can all affect your anxiety levels, which causes this feeling!!!
Remain positive, I know how scary this is!! Be optimistic, this does go away!! give it your time, this is your body's way of telling you to pay attention to it!!
Incredible book for all you sufferer's. Peter Levine-waking the tiger!!
I strongly recommend it, this book got me understanding why we feel this way and what we can do to stop it! Great read!
