Hi group,

I joined this site a couple of weeks abo following back problems i'm currently having, but have looked through the list of forums and noticed this one on ent.

I've suffered with deafness from around the age of 5 years old due to a childhood illness and i've had a number of operations which dont seem to have worked, including gromits placed in both ears. I cant hear at all in my right ear due to nerve deafness and during a hearing test some 17 years ago I was told that I had slightly lost hearing in my left ear.
When I was 15 I was told I had a punctured eardrum and that my eardrum was also thin and that whenever a cold affects my hearing I have to see the doctor for antibiotics incase of any signs of infection. I last visited the doctors due to earache and muffled sound a coupel of weeks ago and was prescribed antibiotics and the doctor mentioned that it was some sort of syndrom that I had in regards to my left ear.

My left eardrum is very thin and I mentioned to the practice nurse at my gp's surgery that I was going on holiday the following day and she asked if I was flying, which I wasnt so I think if I had of been flying I wouldnt of been able to go on holiday.

I was given a hearing aid when I was around 14 years old but only wear it when I get a bad cold and it affects my hearing. At one stage I lost my hearing due to a cold and I didnt get my hearing back until about 4 months later. I dont like wearing my hearing aid as it takes some getting used to and whenever I do wear it I just get used to it and then I no longer need it.

I can't remember what type of syndrom it was that the doctor was on about but I would be interested if anyone here had any idea. Although I will be asking at my next doctors visit next week.
