Hi,
in may we rushed our son to the local emergency room on a saturday evening for what we thought was possibly appendicitis. After a ct scan we found out that he had a raging kidney infection (as the doc called it).

We now know that he had extensive acute pyelonephritis in his right kidney and focal acute pyelonephritis in his left kidney. Also noted in the docs report was inflammation involving the gerota's fascia on the right side. They found that he had a raging staph infection in his blood as well. He was a pretty sick young man.

He was treated with iv antibiotics for 7 days, oral antibiotics for 14 days and he's now on a once a day dose of antibiotics to prevent urinary infections.

He has been referred to a pediatric urologist for further tests.

Has anyone out there had any experience with this type of infection? And what happens next? We're in the dark. I've been scouring the internet for information especially on the focal acute pyelonephritis that seems to be the more serious part of the infection. I'm just really concerned about future medical problems with our son and don't want to make any mistakes in pursuing treatment for him.

Thanks
sandy
