Hey, i've been on zoloft for a few years now and it's been going pretty well. Recently, i've starting drinking. Some nights I just go out with my friends and get completely wasted. I've been trying to skip some of the medicine around the times I drink, but I was wondering if there is any permanent damage that could result from drinking while on zoloft. I know the doctors say that it's not a good idea, but my body seems to handle it fine. Just was worrying if there is any serious permanent damage going on or anything. Thanks.

I have the same concerns. It seems that it's just not cool in the politicial climate to take alcohol and zoloft. It is hard to get a knowledgeable answer regarding this subject even though zoloft has underdone extensive testing. It looks like zoloft and alchol has never been clinically studied.

People do write that heavy drinking depletes the body of liquid and nutrients that need to be replenished. I think a physical would reveal any deficiencies there.

It is also written that if liver impairment is developed from some non zoloft activity like alcoholism then the effects of the zoloft are lessened. This seems to be because the liver is the major director of the chemicals in zoloft. Not a doctor here.. But this is how I understand what I have been reading.

I take zoloft and have been drinking alcohol everyday since starting. I am trying to control my alcohol problem now. However I have never felt the zoloft or alcohol being a bad combo. I have even asked a few doctors and they worry more about drinking in general than the actual combo.

Zoloft And Alcohol
Aren't you supposed to take zoloft regularly, on a daily basis? If i'm correct, I believe you are not supposed to skip that particular medication for any reason. If you do decide to quit, it must be done using a tapering down technique. With regard to the alcohol, I think that the medication just makes you more susceptible to becoming intoxicated quicker. I would limit the amount you drink while on that medication. Both are intoxicants and you definitely don't want to go overboard. Be careful and take things slow.
