I haven't tried the pills or patch because I don't think that I would remember to take a pill every day and I heard about the nuvaring before I knew about the patch. If these make you nauseaus I would not try the nuvaring.
I put it in and one week later I was having migraine after migraine for three days before I finally removed it and said no more. The nausea was probably the worst it's been for a migraine for me and I started having hallucinations also.
I believe that it's probably the hormones in the ring that cause these effects so for me anyways I am going to try to avoid hormone base birth control in the future.

Hi, my advice would be to get the shot. I think you only have to get it every three or six months and a couple of my friends use that method. You would not get your period, well, ever. You might have some spotting the first couple of months but other than that I guess its pretty effective. Plus you could have your doctor mail you something or give you a call when you need a reminder to come in, so remembering isnt a prob. Hope that helps!

Different methods affect everyone differently. What one person doesn't like may work wonderful for you.

You didn't mention what pill you tried - there could be one that doesn't cause nausea for you. You could check with your doctor about trying different ones. Otherwise, like nicolem said, you may want to consider depo provera. It's given by shot every three months. You should talk to your doctor or nurse about it's possible side effects and if it would be right for you.

As far as the nuvaring, I don't know anyone who has tried it or heard anything about it - good or bad - may be something to consider though.

OMG. I had the weirdest hallucinations on the NuvaRing. I had to stop after 15 months because I kept having olfactory and auditory hallucinations. After 6 months, it's starting to stop. This drug stays in my system for a long time. It's almost 7 months now, and I'm finally feeling normal again. I'm with you--never a hormone-based contraceptive again!
