I had hoped to read that someone had responded to this shooting pain in the neck. Today mine was so bad it scared me. I always thought it felt like something was stuck in a blood vessels and the pain was it forcing it''s way through. But my GP doesn''t have any answer. I am seeing a cardiologist and hope he can give me some answers. I have just recently started cholesterol medication, but weight, diet, blood pressure, etc are great. I have been having these shooting pains for a couple of years. Sometimes higher up in the neck but always on the left side. I did have a broken collar bone over 30 years ago as well as a broken shoulder blade and several ribs.

collar bone pain
i get something just a little different. Its the right side of my collar bone and the pain is so bad it will keep me up all night, like it is right now! *why i''m even on this website* but my pain will lasts for days. i don''t know what causes it but even the slightest move of my abdomen will feel like i have a huge knife inside of me and i''m moving and its cutting me even more. this has been happening for about 8 years now. i have asked my doctor and dad about it but they think its nothing to be worried about. I''m starting to get concerned because it just started from me just watching a movie late at night. and i have been awake all day and i didn''t sleep on it wrong. But i can''t sleep now, cuz I''m in way too much pain!

I am trying to find out what this pain I am having is. I also have a sharp pain that shoots out of the right side of my collarbone. I believe it is due to a hickman line that was removed around 10 years ago from my chest. My sharp pain occurs in the exact scar area from the line? Could it be a problem due to scare tissue?

The cardiologist suggested that the sharp shooting pain in my neck & collar bone area is likely from a pinched nerve.

Shooting Pain down the arms
My mom has a pinched nerve where she gets sharp pains down he arm. The doctors diagnoised her with Stinosis. Which basically means the narrowing of a nerve. So she gets shots in the back of her neck and goes to physical thearpy which really seems to be helping.

I have had this EXACT same pain since I was a like 10 and I'm 36 now. I was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome a few years ago and never put the 2 together. With physical therapy, the symptoms of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (severe numbness and tingling in arm, my left arm specifically, as well as dull, achy sensations while driving or typing or writing)were relieved until very recently. So I was looking up what kind of exercises to do when I ran across people talking about this severe, breath-taking,left-sided collar bone pain. I'm not positive, but I think maybe the 2 things are related. Just wanted to post to maybe help someone with answers for this weird pain that I never knew anyone else but me had! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoracic_outl et_syndrome#Diagnosis has some helpful info, something to check into anyway.

I am so happy to know that I am not crazy, and that other people have this same thing. I have been having this pain for over 2 years now. But it is random, I haven't had it in a while, and just today, I have had it 3 times. I asked my doctor a while ago about it, and he doesn't know, he said if it was continuous then they might be able to do tests or something. It is very scarey though, especially having a 4 year old around, he has witnessed it a couple of times, where I just stop, and sometimes cry it hurts so bad, then as quick as it comes on, it just goes away. I would love to know what causes this and if there is a way to get rid of it.

Same here. I'm 33 and I broke my left collar bone playing hockey about 6 years ago. Ever since I get the same debilitating stabbing pain right behind the collar bone from time to time. It's really bad but is gone in a few seconds, usually happens a few times in a row. Don't know how to fix it but I've found that taking a couple really deep breaths during helps it subside.

I get the same pain in my collar bone/shoulder blade area. I cant breath, lift my arm, or move & then its gone. I also get the same in my wrists. I cant grip, hold or move it. As soon as it comes it then goes again. Its hard going to the dr with something thats not there when you go & see them. but Ive finally done it ,Ive just had blood test (CRP) C reactive & (RA) rheumaiod factor.I think Its got something to do with inflamation. hopefully I will get some answers

Go to a chiropractor your collar bone is out of place slightly and pressing on the radial nerve.. if not adjusted it could damage the nerve and the pain travils further up the neck or down the arm

sharp pain in collarbone
Hi everyone,

I have this pain, too and I've had it for years. My doctor told me he thought it was related somehow to dehydration and told me that if I was feeling it, to have a glass of water right away. For me, it really seems to help. Its a horrible pain, and I hope it truly is nothing.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe this happen to so many people. I too get the sharp pains through my collar bone up to my shoulders and back. Here's a suggestion that worked for me: do some simple exercises. You can do them at home or hit the gym. I joined a gym with my friend and after my workout and stretches the pain seemed to have disappeared. Then I stopped going for a few days and voila! The pain had returned. I suppose I should make the gym part of my daily routine. Hope this helps!

Colar Bone Pain
Maybe this will help someone. Strange I come online because I'm constantly having a shooting pain in my right colar bone. I thought I was the only person going through this because there seems to be no answer to the problem. I can go for days and months without it and then all of a sudden it's back. My neck and between my shoulders also hurt out of the blue sometimes. Now here is my question for everyone because I found something else that is wrong with me and it sounds like it would all link together so I'm wondering if this is really the problem. Does anyones jaw pop? If I yawn, or sometimes while eating this will happen very loud sometimes and my jaw sometimes will actually get stuck for a second. Here is a site to tell everyone more about it. I believ this is my problem and I'm going to have it checked out. It can happen slowly over time and get wrose. What happens is at night you most likly grind your teeth it causes the joint to swell and in turn causes swelling in the neck and back musels and can cause pressure in other areas. I only put the two together because I'm having both problems, but I noticed when looking up both problems that TMJ seems like it could cuase both to happen. Anyway if everyone or some of you happen to have a popping jaw or jaw pain from time to time this could be causeing the colar bone pain as well. I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that when I have the colar bone pain usually my neck or jaw is hurting as well. I had not noticed before I guess becaus the colar bone pain is so sever. Maybe this well help us all. http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Symptoms-of- TMJ-Disorder&id=5366474

Collar Bone Pain
OK, I have the same type of pain: Sharp, like a needle into or under my collar bone on the left side. I am right handed and work in front of a computer for 8 hours a day with another 3 spent later doing class work. I also have Arnold Chiari Malformation Syndrome that was "fixed" 20 years ago with plates and screws when the doctors broke my C1. The pain in my collar bone isn't consistent but the worse part is that I have been having the pain for the last 5 hours every 5-10 minutes and lasts just 2-5 seconds. The pain is sharp enough to make me cry and with all the extra pieces in my body, that's not easy to do. I keep wondering if its a sign that there is a blockage in an artery because if you follow the source it is right along the major artery in the neck. I hate this but thank you to everyone for letting me know I'm not alone.

I get what is like electrical shock that runs from my collar bone (both sides) up my neck to(thyroid area)...last for a few seconds and it disapates. I can have it on and off for several days and then not again for a while...it is very random with no pattern...It almost feels like the neck muscles are wanting to tighten up during the eppisodes. A couple years ago I was found to have a cyst or nodule in the middle of my thyroid that was rather large and have had different test but have not followed up with results from last year due to having four children and putting myself on the back burner so to speak...I also at one time started getting a wraspy voice for like a year and now it only comes on once in a while...I really wonder if this is thyroid related and would like to know if your wife had any other symptoms with her thyroid cancer??? I have found things online for the electrical shock up the back of the neck being related to seizures but nothing gives information about the front of the neck??!?! Thank you for your time!!

Sharp neck pain
I have the pain EXACTLY as you describe it. It's just like a shot of electricity from the top of my left shoulder up the side of my neck and ending somewhere around my ear. Normally its always been quick bursts, but today's episode scared me. It was probably a full minute a d it had me writhing on the couch. My kids kind of freaked out. It doesn't happen often, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Do any of you also experience ringing in the ears?

This has been going on with me for as long as I can remember. I am 35.

Sad I have this problem.. Well not the jaw popping. I get it at random times. My abdomen may cramp too (could it be a gas bubble?) And when it starts happenin, it hurts VERY bad if I bend over and it is relieved when I raise my arm above my head. It fluctuates when I breathe. It's awful. It doesn't last forever but when it's done, my stomach usually cramps. the only medical condition I have is Migraines. Often!

Sharp pain in collarbone region is caused by gas
I have experienced this many times in my life, but I finally know what it is...at least in my case. I used to think that I had gas in my shoulder and I know now that I was correct. Two days ago I had my gallbladder removed laproscopicly. They filled my abdomen with gas during the surgery and some residual gas remained afterwards. The gas is causing more pain than anything else. The gas decided to take up residence right underneath my right collar bone. Nothing really relieves it but I'm told that it should go away in a day or two. I used to think I was crazy for thinking that you could get gas around your shoulder and collarbone, but now I know for certain that all those knife-stabbing pains I've suffered through were indeed gas. I called the doctor and the nurse told me that to get the gas bubble to move down out of my shoulder that I needed to lie down and elevate my feet so they are higher than my head. However, that is certainly not going to happen any time soon so I will just deal with it the best I can. I know this may not be the magical solution everyone is hoping for, but I hope it helps some of you.
