Q: Missed Patch! Eep..

I am due to visit my long-distance boyfriend on wednesday of this coming week, and I just forgot to put on my new ortho evra patch (i have been using for like 6 months) last night! I put it on this morning. The thing is, it was at the end of my period (in fact, my period is at the end right now) and I vaguely recall my doctor telling me that if I put on the patch on the sunday after my period, it is effective immediately, but on any other time I have to use back-up contraception for a week. Does anyone hear know the rule, and will I have to buy condoms? (i am only worried about pregnancy, not stds of any kind.) I will, of course, if no one is sure. But I really think I remember my doctor telling me that.

Thanks!
