My boyfriend had a vasectomy 7 years ago.
My friend knows someone that they had a
vasectomy after their third child and then
8 years later, the wife was pregnant (she
was faithful). How can that happen, and
if it can, how often does it happen?

There are two ways (that I have heard of
-- maybe there's more) ways of doing a
vasectomy. One way they just cut the vas,
the other way they cut it, burn it, tie it
up and smash the bejesus out of it. The
second way is extremely unlikely to
reattach, but there have been instances
where from just cutting it the ends manage
to reattach so that the sperm delivery
function works again. It is pretty rare
-- less than 1%, i'm sure. You could ask
your bf which sort they did.
