Please ease my mind as I am in fear of my
upcoming leep procedure in 2 days. I
have h.P.V. And after having normal paps
for years my last pap result showed
abnormal cells. I had a colpolscopy and
a biopsy done and the pathology result
shows cervical dysplasia, which in a sense
is precancerous cells. The next step is
a leep. I've been reading up on leep and
some women didn't experience pain but
other have said that it was very painful.
I'm so nervous i'm about to cry. The
copolscopy & biopsy wasn't so much
painful as it was unfortable. Should I
expect the same thing or worst? Is there
a way to prevent pain like taking some
extra strength pain reliever? Please
help!

You need to look at the positive and that
is to have it, be checked out, it is
better than waiting and draging it out and
having the cancer grow inside you. I
know this for a fact because I had cancer
and had a complete hysterectomy and I
would rather had the hysterectomy then the
cancer.
The best to you!
Sincerely,
sandy

Leep Procedure Posted: 07-07-05 09:37am
I know you are nervous. I am awaiting
biopsy results from a colposcopy. I have
hpv and had an abnormal pap. I expect to
have dysplasia as well, so i'm preparing
myself for some type of surgery:
cryosurgery, or leep to remove the
abnormal areas. They found 2 small warts
on my cervix, so I don't know if those
will have to be removed or just monitored.
Let me know how the procedure was so I
have an idea what to expect. Thanks!

Had Leep Procedure Posted: 07-14-05 00:56am
I noticed that the timing of this e-mail
will be past your surgery. I had a leep
done on april 13th, 2005. The procedure
itself was painless and I had minimal to
no bleeding afterwards considering I am a
very bad bleeder and have many other
medical issues that even scared my
surgeon. I thought the recovery process
was well and done with until I got my
first period. I have never experienced
so much pain in my vagina. It was very
high up and it felt as though someone lit
a torch up me. I have these ripping,
tearing and burning sensations so chronic
it is unbearable to do much of anything
and sitting is the worst for me. These
symptoms flare up a week before my period
but now even those are all scattered. I
have a surgeon who will not admit
something went wrong and left starting
back at square one trying to sort through
5 other serious conditions. All
specialists blaming the other one and it
is a never ending battle that feels like a
full-time job when dealing with
appointments on a daily basis. If you
have these issues please seek medical
attention asap and do not take no for an
answer that it is something else. I have
ran into a few people who have had the
exact same issue and after years of trying
to get answers it came right back to the
leep procedure. Let my pain be a message
to those who also suffer that you are not
alone but to demand the care and respect
your body deserves as a human being.

Scheduled For Surgery Posted: 07-14-05 08:28am
I found out I do have dysplasia, but
because I have positive ecc (meaning the
dysplasia is not only on the surface of
the cervix, but up inside), I have to have
a cone procedure/biopsy. It's different
than a leep because mine is a general
anesthesia surgery in the hospital, and it
cuts a large cone-shaped portion of my
cervix out. There are complications
related to this, including infertility.
I can deal with that, but i'm scared
dysplasia will reoccur in the future and I
will be forced to have repeat procedures,
and possibly a hysterectomy. The thought
of cancer scares the heck out of me also.
Anyone been through the cone?

Cone Biopsy Posted: 07-14-05 11:31am
I have also had 2 cone biopsies before I
had the leep and I am not sure why it is
required to be in hospital nor under an
anesthetic. It takes less time and
although there is mild to moderate
cramping during the procedure, you are
fine to walk out and just rest for a day
or so. After those results came in we
did the leep as a way to remove any and
hopefully all abnormal cells. If you are
very susceptible to pain or just prefer to
be "put under", it may be why they are
choosing that route. You will be fine
following as I have not met one person who
actually became gravely sick after this
procedure. Keep me posted crystal1111 as
I am always interested in hearing the
outcomes of these type of issues because
of my own battle with this area.

Cone Biopsy Posted: 07-14-05 15:53pm
Thank you ccb1974,
i think we may be the same age
(1974-smile). I appreciate the feedback.
I'm scheduled to have my surgery on the
26th of this month. I think I am most
scared of the results of the biopsy. I
originally had an abnormal pap, then a
colposcopy with a biopsy (came back mild
dysplasia-cin 1 with positive ecc). My
doctor recommended the cone because of the
dysplasia being in the endocervical area.
She said they prefer to do general
anesthesia rather than the spinal
anesthesia, because it's quicker. I fall
asleep, wake up and stay until I can walk,
and then leave. That was her advice. I
don't know how that varies. I think my
worst fear is that the cone biopsy will
reveal worse dysplasia or possibly
carcinoma that didn't show up in the pap
or the colposcopic biopsy. Do you know
if that is possible? I have high and low
risk strains of hpv and i'm definite that
is the cause of this problem.
