Q: When to Walk And Avoid Ticks

I love taking walks with my 2 dogs in rural nothern california. Unfortuneately, they get ticks, so I have dosed them with the topical liquid insecticide. It works for a while, but I don't want the "little buddies" hitching a ride on me! Is there a time of day or night when the little brown ticks are dormant? Or at least less active? I could easily adjust our walk time around the ticks sleeping habits. Thanks, mm :)

I think between april and october they are most active, I guess it depends if they are hungry or not!
