New Member - Suffering Due to Lack of Medical Help. Posted: 05-29-05 20:37pm
I'm karen and i'm 31 years old from
england. I started with back pain about 8
years ago. The pain would be in the spine
area between my shoulder blades and spread
across to the left and right of my
shoulder blades. Over the years the pain
has become increasingly worse and more
painful.
The best way I can deiscribe the pain
between my shoulder blades which has now
spread to my neck and lower down the spine
is a sudden sharp pain but is more or less
constant. When the pain gets worse it
becomes like a burning type of pain with a
numb feeling but the pain is still
present.
I also had a little girl 20 months ago and
suffered back pain in the lower back
during pregnancy and during labour due to
her back being against mine. I still
suffer this pain and becomes very painful
when i'm having to bend over, for example,
when I change the bedding, when I shange
the little girls nappy and so on. Its
feels like a pulling pain which becomes
really painful
i have been complaining of this pain to my
family doctor now for some time and my
previous doctor who left the surgery in
may 2004 did carry out an x-ray which was
clear, i've also had physio, different
types of drugs (painkillers and
ani-inflam's) and nothing seems to be
showing up anything or helping. I have
even been to pain clinic who decided to
send me for accumpuncture which this made
the pain worse.
I can go to bed and be in pain and when
getting up out of bed is also painful.
When the painis really bad I cant lie on
my back in bed due to the pain in my lower
back and upper back.
The doctor I know have who took over from
my previous doctor in august 2004 doesnt
seem to be helping and just seems to find
it easy to give me antidepressants instead
as he thinks that the depression in
bringing on the pains when the pains was
here first and depression afterwards due
to all the stress with not knowing what
the problem is and whats going on,
especially when my doctor just finds it
easy to give me drugs instead of getting
to the bottom of things.
I went to see a different doctor in my
surgey last friday and his given me some
stronger painkillers and also a couple of
numbers to telephone to get some
councilling as I have also lost my mum who
I was very close to some 10 weeks ago.
This and other problems dont help with my
medical problems which are also on going
and becoming worse.
I have also been suffering with abdominal
problems and still undiagnosed with this
problem but been told in the past that it
could be endometriosis. So i'm not doing
to well on teh medical side of things!
Especially with my doctor. So I not
intend to see the doctor I saw last friday
from now on instead of the doctor I am
registard with.
Any help, advice and support would be
greatful.
Karen

You shoud seek a second opinion...
Request a mri for your back and a
specialist for your endometriosis
do you have medical insurance? Most
insurance co publish a list of providers
that are covered by your insurance, start
with the directory.

Hi,
i've never been asked to attend an mri
scan or even been sent for one. This is
the only thing I can see myself as not
been done so far to try and find a
diagnosis.
My brother also has back problems through
an industrial injury he sustained some
years ago and he was looking up for some
information online and came across a
website in the uk for rsd/crps and he sent
me the link and asked me to read the
symptoms as they sounded just like what I
was suffering and when I looked there is
about 19 of the symptoms which match what
i'm going through.
The burning pain, numbness but still with
pain, pins and needles, sweating, nausea,
sickness, depression and sencative to the
area when touched... In a way it just
feeling like a bruise but deep within my
spine area. This pain in my upper back
starts between my shoulder blades area and
spreads across, this also increases up
towards my neck and my middle back at
times. I have even had to have my hair
cut as I used to have it really long but I
couldnt handle putting it up anymore as it
was to painful for my back and neck.
I'm also currently taking dihydrocodiene,
paracetomal and tramadol to help control
the pain when the pain gets really bad.
