i just started the nuvaring, yeah i know protected (condoms) are the way to go, but in all honesty i don't like them. it makes sex less pleasant. how effective is the nuvaring? no rude comments please! sure doctors say, but they aren't the ones using it. so please comment and tell me what ya think about getting pregnant while just beginning the nuvaring and no further protection.

I got on Nuvaring about 10 months ago, 2 months after giving birth to my first child. We just celebrated his 1st birthday....And then, the very next day, I found out I am pregnant. My husband and I are very shocked and upset. I cannot believe that after almost a year of being on this birth control that this could happen. I MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THE NUVARING. As soon as I have this abortion, I WILL be using another method. I am also considering a lawsuit.

Nuvaring User
I have been on the Nuvaring now for a little over a year, prior to this I was taking the depo shot for a few years. Personally LOVED depo, but my doctor was highly concerned with the link of loss of bone density, even though I was tested and passed with flying colors.

I do like the Nuvaring as well, much easier than remembering to take a pill every day. As long as you cycle your weeks correctly, there should be no problem. And I noticed some of you were concerned with lighter and shorter periods, well that is part of the Nuvaring. on average mine last 3 days, some months heavier than others. It's completely normal on this BC according to my gyno, actually she told me beforehand that's how it would be. As far as the side effects, I have had no problems with decrease in sex drive or migranes (at least migranes have always been a problem for me, so I do not associate them with the BC). And my boyfriend actually likes it when I have the ring in, gives it that little extra spice. No discomfort on either side when it comes to sex.

But I will say every medication out there will react differently with each individual. You just have to find what is right for you. And no BC is 100% effective! And also, to keep in mind, I'm sure you hear more about problems than benefits on blogs like this. If it was working good for you, do you think that you would really be researching and posting about it? I know people do have side effects, but some food for thought while you research your options. Hope you have found this helpful.

Nuvaring
I have been on Nuvaring for alittle over a year now. over the year I have found the pros and cons of it.

Pros-
1)Dont have to remember a daily pill
2)I can now take out my BC during my period and have unprotected sex and not get pregnant. NOTE I HAVE BEEN ON THIS BC FOR OVER A YEAR!!!!! DONT TRY IF YOU JUST STARTED IT! It says it can last up to 3 months before you can get pregnant(not a 100% for sure thing so dont do it if you dont want to get pregnant what so ever because I only do it because we dont mind if we end up pregnant)
3)Its never came out during sex
4)My periods and shorter and light
5) I never gained weight. Staying strong at 119 pounds.

Cons
1)I recently have been getting severe headaches
2)My sex drive has gone down and cannot get all to wet down there
3)I believe it cut me down there as well. I took out the nuvaring and found that the edges had rough spots that scratched my vagina during sex
4)From the con number 3 sex is now painful and with the low sex drive I know have to worry about painful sex.
5)I have recently noticed a burning discharge during sex.
6)Not sure if this is from Nuvaring but since I have been on it I have had several cyst and a kidney infective.
7)And recently mood swings. Major mood swings that go from crying to mad about something stupid.

Now note that most of these cons have just recently taken place around July and have not gone away. The Nuvaring was perfect for the first half year, but it seems to have gone down hill after wards. Mainly the low sex drive and it cutting my vagina. I have been thinking about changing BC but have no clue what I would like to use since Nuvaring is easy. Just wondering if any one else have had the samethings happen t them too.

New NuvaRing user
I recently started the NuvaRing on Nov 5. Within a week I began having just about every pregnancy symptom you can have. Nausea and vomiting, back aches, abdomen aches, headaches, my stomach felt constantly upset, weight gain, strange eating habits, my mood swings were terrible, and my boyfriend was constantly upset because I was upset. Everything made me angry, and if it didn't I just wanted to cry. My OB/Gyn said that my body was just sensitive to the hormones because I have PCOS.
My boyfriend can sometimes feel the NuvaRing during sex.
It is now the 26th of November, and the side effects have dwindled a bit. My OB/Gyn wants me to tough it out and stay on the NuvaRing as long as I can stand the side effects.
I am a bit concerned, because my roommate just found out she is pregnant and has been on the NuvaRing taking it properly for not quite a year.
I have not decided if I want to continue using it or not, but the side effects, and the problems with my irritability are causing me problems at work and at home.

The negatives definitely seem to outweigh the positives for me..but everyone is different.

love it
Ive been on Nuvaring for over 4 years and my good friend for over 5(shes the one that recomended it to me) ive never had a problem with it. yes guys tend to feel it but nothing drastic that will cause issues. I think its like a stupid proof form of bc. Im horrible with pills so id mess up with them, but with NR you just keep it in 3 weeks nd remember the week u need to take it out and ur set. Ive had no side effects, never had issues with it coming out, and think its super easy to put in and remove. Id recomend it to everyone. Hope it works as well for you as it does for me...oh and i dont use any other protection with my BF besides the NR and have never had any scares, even had sex right after putting ring back in and still no scares Smile good luck
