Not In Far
Thanks for the tip, but believe me it was in all the way. This pain wasn't from the plastic ring this was a burning from the chemicals. I want to know if anyone else has this problem. I'm glad it works for some people, but I had a clearly bad reaction.

the bloating and the long period is normal. That happened to me when I started the pill, it goes away. I'm not so sure about the leg cramping.

Pregnant On the Nuva Ring!!!
I thought the nuva ring was the best thing sinced sliced bread - for 2 months. Then I got pregnant. my husband and I just got married and we were not planning on starting a family for at least 4 years...But god had a different plan! Anyway, I just wanted to put out a warning - I did the nuva ring exactly as the directions said, I never even took it out for a second. But I did have a yeast infection, and I did use one of those one shot monistat creams, and I think that is what did it. - so beware - the ring can cause vaginal irritations, etc... But check with your doctor before you do anything! Baby is coming in december!

Re: Nuva Ring And Side Effects

after reading some of the replys of women who only used them for a few days or a month. It takes longer than a month for you to start feeling the effects, also it is impossible to notice a difference within one day or hours.

i highly disagree.

If your ovaries produce enough estrogen on their own, you can feel a difference right away because you're putting -too- much estrogen into your system. That is like saying if you're allergic to nuts you won't feel the effects of it for a few weeks. Personally I was allergic to my dosage on my 3mg dose of bc, and now i'm allergic to my lower dose. You will notice side effects; after two days of ortho tri-cyclen I was bawling my eyes out for absolutely no reason. Had tingling in my hand that wouldnt go away. These are warning signs.

Listen to your body, not the manufacter, not the doctor! People can be wrong!

Ugh
I am so fed up with this birth control thing  I was on depo provera for seven years, loved it. Then no one would give it to me anymore because of the side effects. So then I got put on the pill. I told them I wouldnt be able to take it everyday, im so forgetful. They put me on it anyway, I missed two days in a row and bled for a month straight. I went back and told my physician I hated it, and wanted something more permanent. Im thinking iud. I dont want children for at least 4 years and ive been with the same man who is to be my husband for 2. She refused and put me on this nuvaring thing. I had no idea what to expect but after putting it in barely an hour ago I know my boyfriend is going to hate it. There is no way you cant feel this during sex. Which means that before intercourse im going to have to remove it every time. :x man, I just want something I dont have to worry about, you think modern medicine would have figured this out by now.

Lol hysterectomy?

Um I think it was posted a couple times in this thread and it states in the pamphlet that you can remove it up to three hours without losing the effectiveness of birth control

but if you're a medical professional im definatley apt to believe you

i am not a medical professional, I am going to be in training to become one. And it stands for all birth controls that it is alright to take it within a time span of within 4 hours, but if you do that regularly (not always on time) then it reduces the affect. I know this personally because I ovulated on my last birth control.

you can take it out for three hours per month...Not per day!! It says so on the nuvaring website.

"but if you're a medical professional im definatley apt to believe you"

i took this in a negative way as in "why would I believe you" so if I am mistaken I am sorry, but this is an advise forum for health help. We are only offering help pertaining to what you had said, and as said by mariana, "you can take it out for three hours per month...Not per day!! It says so on the nuvaring website. "

the bumps I am not sure about, but it could be your body reacting to the constant removal and insertion of the ring. The ring has chemicals on it, and from the sounds if it you're removing it way too many times.. It might be possible you have a rash and gave it to him? Irritation?

No I honestly meant that statement sincerly, im not going to dismiss you if you've got medical backing behind it.

And ive only had the ring for a day or so, im not constantly taking it out and putting it back in, I was curious last night if he was going to be able to feel it so we had sex and he said it was ok at first but then it kinda hurt, so I took it out for the rest of the time (10 minutes....Max?) and then put it back in

as for the bumps, he gets them whenever he has a reaction to something, like soap or antibiotics or in this case probably the hormones. Im not sore, and I cant feel it, but I feel like whats the purpose of birth control if you cant fully enjoy yourself?

Honestly im just upset they wont give me an iud

it's best to leave it in the entire time; it's not a pill that you take ahead of time. The irritation (my guess) is the hormones.

And I completely understand about the wanting to fully enjoy yourself. I'm almost 20, and I can't tolerate hormones.. And I have a steady hopefully-long term commited relationship. It becomes a hinderance to not be able to tolerate things, seeing I have a boyfriend who is paranoid without two forms of protection. In my opinion, the ring isn't worth having. I've heard many people have gotten pregnant on it, it comes out, it hurts, it's irritating.. But what doesn't work for some people works for others. In my opinion, i'd rather have a cervical cap and use condoms, rather than poison my body with hormones I can't tolerate.

As for an iud, there are different types out there, but personally I wouldn't suggest one just because of some facts:

they're not for everyone
they are long term in the sense if you get an infection, you can become infertile.. Infertility does not fix itself
they can unattach
they can move
if you have endometrial problems, they can intensify these through infection.

My mother had a full hysterectomy after waiting since she was 24 and was told to get one then. She's 38 now, and got the operation last year. All her organs were stuck together in a mass; I can't get the iud simply because my body has a tendancy to reject certain thing. I'm afraid of infection. I'm afraid of genetics.

But it's up to you what you chose, some things work, some things don't. I learned I don't tolerate hormones through 8 months of wanting to kill myself, attacking people, and crying. Some people are happy as a clam on them. Got to mix and match, try out different things, and see what works for you and your boyfriend, but mainly you.

Listen to your body.

I used the ring for a bit. I was using the pill for about 3-4 years then switched to the patch because I kept forgetting to take the pill. I was on the patch for about 1-2 years but then my doctor got me to switch due to cronic migraines. I switched to the ring. It was ok. I didn't get pregnant off of it or anything, but I just felt weird putting it back in when I was supposed to because I was still on my period.

The only other thing that I didn't like was that you have to put it in and take it out around the same time and same day.

I just started on the nuvaring almost 3 weeks ago and I love it so far. When I first got married I tried ortho-tri-cylen-lo (spelling?) and I didn't like it at all. I felt depressed and weird all the time and also lost my sex drive, which was dissappointing since I waited to have sex for marriage and then didn't have the drive anymore....Anyway I went off bc for a year and we used condoms. Finally I got tired of the condoms so I decided to try out the nuva-ring. So far I like it, I hope that continues! The side effects that I have noticed so far in mild form are: sore/growing boobs the whole month, feelings of starting my period all month, and one day after running I had a serious burning/sore sensation on the outside of my vagina (like robindr described in an earlier post). I'm hoping all these things are just initial side effects and aren't anything that are going to happen every month. We'll see! But after reading the posts about people getting pregnant on nuva-ring I am starting to wonder....I wouldn't mind if I got pregnant but I wouldn't want the baby to be effected in anyway by the hormones from the bc...That would be my only concern. But I am going to stick with it. It's the most convienient/comfortable form bc that is out there in my opinion.

Nuvaring
I've been using the NuvaRing for 3 cycles now. The first few days of my first cycle with the Ring, I experienced irregular emotions (depression, extreme irritability, etc) but thankfully that passed after the first few days, and has not returned to that degree since. I do notice that I am more irratable than I was before I began to use the Ring. I had not been using any form of birth control for 2 years because I had such problems with the pill in the past. I've also noticed with the Ring that I have (sorry if this sounds terrible) but more discharge than before, which is really annoying. Also, I lose more hair when I shower than I did before. Also, I have gained a bit of weight, which is abnormal for me, as I am very consistant with my weight. I notice but nobody else does. But on the other hand, I don't have to remember to take a pill everyday, I can't feel it, nor can my boyfriend, and I'm NOT PREGNANT! So...hope this helps.

Okay I just started the nuvaring and now i'm terrified because of all the things i've read. Will my husband be able to feel it during sex?? And if he can, is it going to make sex less pleasent? Someone please hlp me out here.

You can take the nuvaring out for up to 3 hours (during sex) I was told this by my gyno and it states in the package insert I believe. Since my partner was able to feel it we just took it out during sexual activity and replaced afterwards. I do advise taking it out during intercourse because mine had falled out once and I didn't even notice until a week later and I had gone a week without it.

Relieved
I am so thankful that I found this forum. I thought I was going crazy. I have become soooo depressed since being on the ring. I thought it was just me or that something was wrong with my marriage. After reading all of the replies, I feel so comforted. I completely see myself in all of the symptoms that everyone else is having. I am also having a lot of urinary tract infections. I never had them unitl I started taking the ring. I use to take the pill, but I had to come off of that because I was having such severe migranes. I enjoy not having the migranes, but the depression and weight gain is getting to be horrible. I beginning to wonder if birth control is really safe for women.
