Don't use it if you have PPD.
I used nuvaring (the first BC i've ever used...) about 12 weeks after I had my daughter. I had some symptoms of PPD, but my BF convinced me it was in my head from all the stuff I had read when I was preggo. I eventually ended up feeling even more depressed to the point where I would rarely sleep, even if the baby was sleeping. I ended up with Post Partum Psychosis. I threw things, screamed, cried all the time, left my BF about once a month...i'm talking packing my stuff, taking the baby and leaving. It got to the point where I totally hated myself and needed help.
I'm not totally blaming Nuvaring. I loved everything about it, except it's interaction with my PPD. The dr says I should have told her I was feeling depressed and that my hormone levels didn't get a chance to level out before I started Nuva and that mixed with untreated PPD caused my psychosis.
Wouldn't recommend to new mothers, but otherwise it's great!
No problems with sex (and he's well endowed.) and it's great for forgetful people like me so you don't have to take a pill everyday.

pregnany while on Nuva Ring
ok well.. For all of you out there that are wondering.. Yes, you can get pregnant while on the nuvaring. I have been on it steadily for the last 3 years.. Never missed when to take it out or when to put it in. I've had no problems with it, I loved it and reccomended it to all my friends even... Last month, the week of June 2nd, I had a normal period.. A couple days ago I started feeling weird. I just felt all bloated n fat.. Figured it was cuz I was gonna start my period soon. I decided to go to the DOLLAR STORE and get a preg test so that I could see the negative, and have my piece of mind.. Well, thats not what I got.. I ended up with 2 positives.. One from dollar tree and the other was an ept digital.. both said Pregnant..

Multiple Symptoms:

I started the Nuva Ring July 1, 2009. I tried to tough it out but experienced the following:
-Gained 7 lbs in first week
-Loss of sex drive
-mild head aches
-COMPLETELY b**chy (actually ended my relationship)
-EXTREMELY tired
-Boyfriend (now ex) complained that it freaked him out that he could feel it....& that it was a Turn off!
-chemical vag smell.
-stomach bloating

I would not recommend this to anyone. Especially since it may be recalled this year. That's NEVER a good sign. Once I read that (which was about 20 min ago) I went to take it out in my bathrm here at work. I was surprised to find that when I reached to "retrieve" it, my insides felt EXTREMELY swollen and as if they were protruding out of my vagina. I put a call in to my Dr. Little concerning.

My g/f is using Nuvaring... I want to have unprotected sex. She made me go get STD tested and everything, so I don't have to use condoms any more... but now i'm kind of scared getting her pregnant

For those who have been on Nuvaring for a short amount of time SWITCH to something else after 2 years because it gets evil. with me the mood swing tripled from norm, no sex drive what so ever, gained 20 lbs that wont budge and I am a very active person, can't sleep, no energy its like Im mot myself. The1st 2 years were cool but its been 5 Im just fearful on getting away from something that so simple to use, no to very very light periods but then came along mirena. Im switching in 2 wks so ill see how it goes. As for ur boyfriend feeling it get over it bc = no babies, just push it up all the way to ur cervix and u wont feel it or he wouldnt be my boyfriend any longer, with determing your life for you by taking out ur bc without ur permission. NOT COOL

I used the nuva ring for a long time and I liked it. My husband never felt it during intercourse. I never experienced any bad side effects. My biggest problem was forgetting it was even in there and leaving it in too long. My gynecologist said it can be left in for 4 weeks instead of 3 and will work too. I did that a lot, so that they'd last longer and I had less periods. She said there is enough hormone in there for that extra week. I am going back on the ring, because it was easy and it worked.

nuva ring
I have been using the nuva ring for 3 months now and I absolutely love it because I haven't had any period issues or pregnancies. I also love it because it is more less hassle free. I have asked my fiance while we are having sex whether or not he can feel it and he can't, try having sex with them once or twice before you tell them about it, see if they mention something about feeling it than.

My gynecologist told me that the nuva ring can be taken out for up to 2 hours in the event a couple doesn't want to have it in during sex for any reason. You just have to remember to put it back in. I never took it out, because there didn't seem to be a need for that.

Personally I LOVE iT! I've used the ring for 4 years now and that's after trying so many differnt kinds of pills that either made me spot, made me depressed or made me gain weight. I've never gotten pregnant, I never gained weight and NEVER had a problem with it getting wrapped around my husbands penis...weird. I recomend it to all of my friends and so far the ones that have taken it love it too! As for the sex, my husband did admit he could feel it but it didn't bother him one bit! Not having to remember to take a pill every day has been the best thing ever!

my friend went on nuvaring about the same time that i went on tricyclen lo, and I can tell you that I noticed an OBVIOUS difference in her personality, and not just once a month (this was not PMS) it was always. she was generally more closed off, and distant, which was not like her at all.
obviously nuvaring has worked great for some people, but from personally experience I say that nuvaring can effect your mood to extream measures, and anyone who already has problems like that (depression, aniexty etc) should be very careful with the birthcontrol, and monitor their behavior while on it

Well I mean if you have an inconsiderate boyfriend like Randa85's friend then I suggest you avoid that method, but I loved NuvaRing, it was so far my favorite method of birth control, it was convenient...Ohhh so convenient, I didn't have to worry about a pill everyday. However, like all birth control it decreased my sex drive which for me is a huge problem, but everyone is different. So I do recommend this form of birth control, definitely.

I would just like to inform you that while my mother was on this, she developed massive blood clots. She passed out, and was in a coma for 6 weeks. The doctors told us that she would probably be brain-dead if she ever woke up. Thank goodness she pulled through and is doing fine now but I have since heard otherstories about women dying or being brain dead, because of the massive blood clots.

nuva ring
I have just started the nuva ring. I was taking the pill but I kept forgetting to take it. I just had sex with the ring in and my husband could not feel it. In my mind I felt something, but it felt good LOL. So far I did not gain any weight. I am 5"2 and I weight 110lb. I am very small and I watch my weight a lot. So if I gain any weight I let you all know. I love it and I sometimes forget that it is in me. If it fall out of your vagina you must be very big down there, because when you look at it there is no way it could come out. I hope this help.
P.S. If I was you I'll just give it a try to see how your body work with it. Eveyone is different.

Blood clots. Also, a hair question?
Blood clots occur in women who usually already have heart problems (high cholesterol, very high blood pressure, are or were just pregnant, and who smoke). It's actually not recommended for women who experience these issues since the constant amount of hormonal discharge coming from the ring alters your blood flow (hormonally). This change in blood flow and needs exacerbates any preexisting conditions. Female hormones for birth control (which intend on delaying the release of eggs) make the body sensitive to cortisone (the enzyme that makes people hungry and also maintain body fat; it's often released when one is stressed out or anxious, too), which can explain *some weight gain. Was your mother experiencing clots during menstruation?

I've been on the ring for a year and a half, and it's been the best birth control (by far!) for myself personally, although I have had worse PMS just before my period and worse cramps (I used to never get cramps; that may be the hormone causing it). I like it because it gradually releases the hormone amount, instead of daily assaulting the body with a larger all-at-once dose everyday with a pill. However, I've had friends who are extremely sensitive, and having hormones released all the time is hard on them. It depends on how your body handles hormones, is all. I have not heard or read any FDA recalls on the product; something with this wide of use you'd think they'd announce it better. Hmm. I was on this site because I was concerned (for some reason) that I had a little hair wrapped around the ring when I took it out (yeah, gross) for the first time, but I was concerned that this hair-ring may block out a bit of the hormone for absorption into the vag wall? Anyone know if it could? I would assume not, but I just feel really cruddy the past week (moreso than usual PMS), biiig boobs, lots of bloat; I should get my period in the next day or so, but I'm still just... concerned. I feel like I did when I was preggers. Eugh.

Well with all the horror stories..there arn't enough good ones...I think I want to remedy that...I have been on the Nivaring now for over a year...and the symptoms that I experianced...I could live with were

1. Weight Gain...now I know you all are thinking, how in the world did she like Weight gain, well seeing as I was like 100, 105 soaking wet as my grandma could say, I gained a good 20-30 pounds...now I fluctuate comfotbaly between 127-132...my cloths are filled out more, and the weight isn't like I am fat fat fat..I am just more filled out now, and not such a skinny chick...

2. Breast Enlargment-well with the weight gain came the breast enlargement, I went from a 34B to a 36C...I was always small chested as a little girl, so hell I liked that part....LOL

Some of the things that I don't like about It....

1. Hingrey All the time-I seem to be hungry all the time, and I am not talking about junk food dixing the cravings, I have to have full meals...I almost never get full off os little small things, and I almost all the time eat more than three full meals a day. It's a very weird side-effect to have...probably helped with the weight gain, but it's not good hardly ever feeling fulll...LOL

2. The ring getting kinda Lost...I have the little timer to tell me when to take it out, but sometimes I have a little trouble finding it...It gets sorta lost, not all the way, it's hard to describe, but I have to do some hella weird contorting to find it sometimes, and it can be slightly painful when I am searching for the thing...my girl gets a little sensitive on me...LOL

I have not experienced the mood swings, the hair loss, or any of the other side effects that people have mentioned. I am not particualarly sexually active, so I don't have to worry about the sexual partner thing. I have read several people say that it is perfectly safe to take it out for two to three hours, so I think when the time comes my significant other and I might try that if he has a problem with it. I am not on the ring for pregnancy provention, I was starting to have funky periods, and this has really regulated my cycle..I can literally tell you what day of my off week my period will come on, and about how many days it's going to last..I don't know about yall, but I like have that tiny bit of control, and planning my events for that week/weekend accordingly....
