Hysterectomy In 1995
Posted: 05-27-05 16:46pm

I had a total hysterectomy in 1995; since then, I have had several problems that are getting worse, i.E., intercourse, constipation, incontinence. I have seen 2 different doctors who both advised it was due to low hormone and prescribed cream - it has not worked and the longer this goes on, the worse it gets. Has anyone else experienced this type of problems and, if so, can you give me some answers or suggestions?

It sounds to me like you should check with your Dr. I had mine in 1997 and I have not had any of these problems but I do know of some that have and they were told it is due to the menopause as I hope that you were told you go through that as soon as the hysterectomy is done. Definitely, talk to your Dr. And see what he/she says as I am not a doc.
Keep us posted on what you find out.

Sandy, please stop telling people that you go throught the menopause as soon as a hyst is done.
It is quite simply untrue.
You only go through a surgical menopause if a) your ovaries are removed - a bi-lateral salpingo-oophrectomy (bi-lateral=both sides salpingo=of the tubes oophr=of the ovaries ectomy=removal) or b) your ovaries go into a form of shock and shut down.

Many women, including myself, have had a hyst and have *not* gone through or even come near the menopause.
