Yeah it's definitely serious if they leave any parts of the fetus in the uterus. That can cause major problems for the woman. I can't imagine they would not tell you if the baby were still alive and the abortion had been unsuccessful. If you were far enough along to where you felt movement (quickening) before the abortion, it would have stopped immediately upon completion of the procedure. That's good that you are going back to the doctor especially if you are thinking you are still pregnant after an abortion.

You'd be surprised what people in the medical profession are willing to do to save their own butts.

My cousin was pregnant last year, she was lifting a turkey or something and felt something in her stomach. Some bleeding and a hospital trip later, she was admitted and they told her the baby was fine and that her pregnancy would continue but would be high risk. Then they knocked her out (with drugs, they're not complete neanderthals) and took the baby out. They didn't tell her why or anything like that.

She talked to a lawyer, but has decided not to sue. (if it were me, i'd be sueing their pants off right now!)

i think any normal person would have gone through wih the lawsuit, unles there was somehow a way she gave permission, and she's not telling you all?

Well lots of people in our family are having babies right now. It's probably biting back hard right about now. So maybe she's just holding off.

Anyway, this wouldn't be the first time someone has had surgery without giving consent. There are numerous accounts of people getting c-sections without consent, because of liability reasons. I can see why the hospital would do that. I mean if she was doped up and she could sue if they continued the pregnancy while the baby was close to dying or something. They probably did it to save their own butts. But in their haste (unless they got a court order that she doesn't know about) they didn't account for the fact that they violated her rights, and so they will be sued, if not now then sometime soon.

Now I understand that stillborn birth comment. This illegal act was performed on my cousin. She didn't consent to the surgery that took her 4 month old baby. I know it could be considered an abortion, but I wouldn't call it that because there were lots of other factors.

My sister, however, had an abortion at 9 weeks. This was consented by her and my mom (my mom just had to say that she was given notice).

These are two different people. Two different situations, and two different times and places.

Eiri does have a good point though. Maybe there is something she isn't telling me. I have no doubt that she wouldn't give consent to something like this, but maybe she's trying to keep her mom or dad from looking bad in my eyes, or so that the rest of the family doesn't find out.

But, yes it is true that there have been many times when the hospital (illegally) performed a c-section on unwilling women. There was one account about a woman who was almost forced to get one, but they had to get a court order first (because they claimed the baby was too big to deliver vaginally). So the woman and her husband left, and they went to another hospital, there they delivered (vaginally) a healthy 8lb. Something oz. Baby.

YES IT HAPPENED TO ME YESTERDAY I had my op on monday, and by friday i went to a walkin centre because the pain was unbarable. They sent me to A&E were I was examined (internally and externally) followed by a urine AND blood pregnancy test. both of which came out pozitive. I am now booked for a scan to see if the pregnancy is still viable or the abortion cause the womb too much damage to keep the baby alive. Very angry and confused. I read on the net that this happens to 42 in every 6500 surgical abortions.
