Q: Traditional Chinese Medicine And the West

Western medicine can cure my ailments? western medicine is generally the use of synthetically manufactured single compounds that are administered to the body in highly concentrated doses. These drugs can obviously be highly effective and cure many diseases.Interestingly, many conventional synthetic compounds are derived from plant materials.Aspirin and cisplatin (one of the world’s leading anti cancer drugs) are both derived from trees.

Chinese herbal medicine uses lower dosages of more dilute herbal extracts to help the body retain or maintain its balance in a step-by-step fashion. Perhaps the philosophy of chinese medicine is best expressed by the writings of one 7th-century physician:superior treatment consists of dealing with an illness before it appears.Mediocre treatment consists of curing an illness on the point of revealing itself.Inferior treatment consists of curing the illness once it has manifested itself.

Chinese Medicine For Aids
Aids (acquired immune deficiency) is a generally fatal disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (hiv). Aids patients suffer from flu-like illness characterized by fever, tiredness, swollen lymph nodes and muscle aches. Symptoms of aids might be experienced only after many years’infection. Both clearing toxins and enhancing immunity are incorporated in the traditional chinese medicine treatment.

Conventional medicine treats sexually transmitted diseases by identifying the pathogens of the disease and attacking them with antibiotics and other drugs. Traditional chinese medicine treats sexually transmitted diseases (and all disease) by differentiating patterns of disease and then treating the specific pattern. Symptoms presented by the patient are analyzed and then classified into an overall pattern of disease or imbalance. Acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine are then used to treat the problem. Chinese medicine therapies were well-established before microscopes permitted researchers to see bacteria and virus, but many of the traditional herbal formulas have anti-bacterial or anti-viral properties, and are highly effective against what modern science calls infection, and what classical chinese texts call heat toxins. Other traditional herbal formulas tonify various fundamental substances of the body (such as qi, blood, yin and yang), and seem to have a positive effect on what modern science identifies as the immune system.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Came to the West
There has been a record of significant interaction between eastern and western medical systems for several hundred years.References to acupuncture and pulse diagnosis occurred in the writings of dutch physicians in the 17th century.

Much of what is now known as swedish massage originated from china and there has been a long history of exchange in herbal products with cinnamon bark being exported from china to ancient rome and herbs such as american ginseng being incorporated into the chinese tradition in the nineteenth century.

Western medicines dont cure ailments, they merely cover them up by treating the symptoms.

Polio, among thousands of other ailments are cured by western medicine. Polio being especially significant because Eastern medicine can neither prevent nor treat it. If you compare East and West objectively, Eastern medicine doesn't cure any existing condition. It is largely a preventative medicine designed to augment the natural healing ability of human beings.
Both Eastern and Western traditions of medicine have significant merits. If you want to tout Eastern Medicine's superiority over the West you should probably explain why china is purchasing heart resuscitation devices Kidney Dialysis machines faster than any other country.
