Q: 6 Month Old With Seizures

Good afternoon! I am a new ehealth member trying to seek some answers regarding my 6 month old experiencing seizures.

On may 17, 2005 my daughter izabella had a seizure. She was sleeping lying on her stomach. When I noticed that she was having an “episode”, I quickly picked her up. Bella’s arms, legs, eyes, and tongue were all moving in sync. It lasted for about two to three minutes. When it was over with, her body when limp, and she came too about one minute later. We went to the er, because we were pretty sure that this was a seizure. They did a cat scan, eeg, mri, and drew her blood…the results all came back normal. The neurologist put her on trileptal…starting off with 05ml, 1ml, and now she is on 1.5ml. So far bella has had two small seizures while being on trileptal. The neurologist said that he may need to change her seizure medication or give her a 24 hour eeg.

On a side note, ever since izabella has been one month old she has had seizures. We did not know this until we described the “episodes” to the neurologist. When she had her very first seizure, we asked our pediatrician about it explaining in detail what happened. She said that it was her immature nervous system and that it was fine. So we were not too concerned, because we thought the pediatrician knew what she was doing.

Also, when izabella has her seizures she is sleeping. She has the seizure and then will go back to sleep.

If anyone has any comments, suggestions, advice…please respond back to me!

You said you thought the pediatrician knew what he/she was doing but you do not seem to know for sure. Maybe you should go back to the Dr. And ask for a full exam...Just to make sure.
Go with your instincts...If you think something's wrong do something about it. You may get lucky.
Good luck to you and please post again on how your daughter is doing.
Take care

As a baby, we were also told that he had an imature nervous system.

He was later diagnosed with epilepsy after seizures got worse.

Ask for a referral to a pede neuro and have a full work up....Best wishes!
