Unfortunately, i've had several of these infections over the years. The two most commonly prescribed antibiotics are bactrim and cipro. They are distinctly different, so you typically want to have the doctor run a culture of the bacteria from you urine. The culture will tell the doctor the best antibiotic for the job.
For acute prostatitis (fever, chills, pain, etc.) insist on a longer course (30 - 45 days) of anitbiotics as the prostate is very difficult for the antibiotics to penetrate. Make sure that you take the antibiotic as directed and complete the full course.
Good luck and hang in there.
