Q: Ankle Pain

About a year and a half I hurt my ankle snowboarding. The pain was very severe but went away after a few weeks. I then re-injured it about 6 months after that, and again the pain went away soon after. Just recently I hurt it again while rollerblading and the pain is very sharp. It is a strange pain, where it only really hurts when pressure is applied to it. Anything as small as a sock brushing against it hurts a lot. The pain is located right on the bone that sticks out on the ankle (not sure of the medical term) and a little under that bone. Does anyone know what might be wrong and should I be going to see a podiatrist to get it treated? I really want to be able to snowboard and rollerblade again. Thanks in advance.

Katie

Hi there! Very sorry to hear of your problems! I live with similar situations 24/7 I was dx'd with rsd almost 2 years ago aand it is one nasty monster, you might look it up on the computer rsd(reflex sympathetic dystrophy). I am no Dr. But if you are diagnosed with this my suggestion to you is to keep functioning the best you can, get to a pain specialist asap and and get some nerve blocks done as they waited to late for me to be diagnosed and mine is spreading, these are just my opinions.
Good luck to you!
Keep us posted!
Sincerely,
sandy

Well whenever you get an ankle injury your ankle will be weak from then on. After the first injury you are suseptible to more injuries that can be worse than the first one. From what it sounds like, you injured your ankle and did not all it to heal properly and just went right back into it. An ankle injury requires a lot of healing time even after the pain goes away. Ankle injuries take patience to get through. The pain you are going through sounds very severe and you want to get that looked at as soon as possible because I have never heard of ankle injuring that hurts from pressure of a sock. Hope things get better.
