Hi, when I was a baby I had a small lump in the side of my neck. Most cases of sternomastoid tumors apparently subside over a short(?) period of time, but i'm 26 now & I still have it. (bccs?) it's hardly noticeable to see, but it causes varying degrees of discomfort. Lately i've been noticing it more & more. Every time I go to the doctor, they say it's nothing to worry about.

I've also had raised lymph nodes in surrounding areas of the sternomastoid (side of neck, left) for about 5-6 yrs, without any symptoms. I did have the worst flu of my life back in 1999 - but I don't have any stds. Lately i've been having appendix(?) & groin "niggling", on & off, but nothing truly bad. My lifestyle has been well-balanced. I did have a period of high stress & asthma a few years ago. I just want to know if anyone out there can relate to this...?

Well, what I mean by "niggling" is very slight pain every now & then. Mine is probably referred from the appendix area. Actually it's seemed to have settled down a bit - but I still have raised lymphs in neck around that supposedly "benign" tumor i've had in my neck since childhood. Anyway i'm seeing a doctor about it soon when I can. Still - does anyone know about lymph nodes in neck relating to sternomastoid tumors? (or bccs - same thing?)

I'm in the process of changing my gp. Do you also mean specialists? I've done some reading up on sternomastoid tumors, & i've never been able to locate anything regarding adult cases, & what if anything can arise from this condition. Except that in children it's benign & not a worry. Maybe I just didn't notice it growing up.

I'm just guessing i've had some invisible lymph infection for the past few years, simply because of the swelling (1cm or a bit more, plus swelling between the passages or whatever linking lymph nodes on the neck). On & off i've had a grumbling appendix tho. May not be connected.
