Q: Orthocyclen And Weight Gain Anyone???

Hello... I have been taking ortho-tricyclen for the last 7 years I would say. It always made me very emotional around my period but I just learned to deal with it. Finally I decided to switch to orthocyclen so there would be only 1 dose of hormones coming into my body as opposed to three different levels per month. I can already tell after just 1 month of taking orthocylen that my emotions have stabilized and i'm not nearly as moody, so i'm happy about that.

However, the downside is that I have gained about 7-10 pounds in the last 3 weeks and i'm becoming quite concerned. This alarms me because i've simultaneously started exercising almost every day, either running 4-6 miles, walking 5-10 miles, or swimming about a mile, in addition to lifting weights. Also, I have become very aware of what i'm eating, counting calories, and am trying to make very healthy decisions about what foods I eat.

I've heard of the pill causing weight gain, but I was wondering if anyone knows the average or most amount of weight gain that can result from taking the pill. Also, has anyone else experienced weight gain from orthocyclen? And if so, would you please tell me about how much weight you gained? I just don't know if 7-10 lbs is normal... It seems rather excessive to me.

Thanks so much in advance for your responses.

Weight gain is actually not a side affect of the pill studies have shown that the pills do not actually make you gain weight. It is from eating more. In your case though I think its from exercising. Your probably just building muscle. Muscle does weigh more then fat.

I've Gained Weight!!
Sec,
I took orthotricyclen when I first started taking bc. When I went to get my next pap (11 months later), my doc noticed that I had gained about 10 lbs since my last visit with him. He asked if I had started eating more, not exercising...And the truth is that I really hadn't done anything different or had become more lazy. He told me that I should try different bc. Anyways, he put me on ortho-lo, and i've gained even more weight! I exercise regularly(at least 45 mins/4-6days a week), eat extremely healthy (salads, fruits, veggies, lean meats, etc) and i've actually gained another 15 lbs, which scares me a lot!! I'm going to see a new doctor soon and maybe she can help me out. If nothing else, i'm going to ask if I can talk to a nutritionist and ask if there's something i'm eating that's setting off somethin' or is slowing down my metabolism. I've been exercising more than ever the past 3 months and haven't eaten any more than usual (i actually put myself on a stricter diet) and still no results, it's like i'm stuck at this scary weight...

Yes You Gain Weight.
I too have gained some weight, but from ortho lo. I told my doctor that I was hungry all the time and she said it's b/c of the horomones in the pill. So the pill isn't keeping the weight on, it's that you are eating more. I really don't know if I want to deal with this or switch to another pill, which can be a whole mess in its self.

Weight gain on ortho-cyclen
It's almost as if I posted the question!! Ditto on everything..that's what brought me to find this posting in the 1st place, I am ALWAYS hungry since I started this pill. I switched from Orth-Tricyclen for the same exact reasons & am enjoying not having the 1 week of craziness that I had. But my husband said @ least my craziness was predictable on Tri & on this one it's anyone's guess...but I say that I'm just less crazy all together on this one. On the Tri I would be almost unbearable & hungry for an entire week, on this one I'm hungry all the time & have what I like to call typical womanly moodiness, nothing extreme like I was on the Tri. But I'm not liking the weight gain...I've put on 10 lbs & this is my 3rd pack. I'm trying to lose 30 more lbs...not gain!! After the 1st of the year, I'm going to get ParaGard.
