Hi there suzy. I had a total hysterectomy in summer of 01. I too was on premarin 1.25 mg. I was having fatigue and "smaller" hot flashes not to mention total loss of sex drive! I just recently turned 36, so that was tough on my husband and i... I was put on "estratest". It has totally changed my situation! I take 2.5 mg and it works on all the symptoms I was suffering from. Hi suzy-after my hysterectomy-i was put on premarin while I was still in the hospital (1.25mg.)---i was feeling fine, but went off cold turkey because of media reports of increased rates of breast cancer. Within 2 weeks, I was feeling lousy-old-rundown unhealthy--even my skin looked horrible (dry--lifeless) I called my gyn. & he put me on a lower dosage of premarin (0.3)-that triggered a seemingly overnight miracle--energy increased-skin responded. Estrogen is a youth hormone & so far the medical community is only concerned about the estrogen/progestin
combination because they have some troubling results of studies done with this combo..Results are not in yet for estrogen alone.

I will stay on estrogen indefinitely barring catastrophic news about this hormone !!

Fatigue can be a symptom of not enough estrogen to meet your body's needs. It could be that your mother would feel better if she took a higher dose; it could be that your mother would feel better on a different form or route of hrt. We all respond in different ways to hrt, and there is no one size that fits all.

If her premarin isn't meeting her goals for taking hrt (one of which is, presumably, not feeling fatigued), then she needs to revisit her physician and discuss trying some other hrts to see if they suit her better. Doctors often have samples available, so that she could try out some other hrts at roughly the same dose as her premarin, to see how they work for her before buying a whole prescription.
