Q: Left Side Abdominal Pain

I have had a nagging pain that comes and goes now for 2 years. The pain is on the left side of my stomach and radiates from under my rib cage, sometimes to my back and lower left region of stomach. It seems like gas at times and does feel better when I have a bowel movement. I also at times feel that region spasm especially after a bm. I have no blood, vomiting or nausea and my stool is always soft but no diarrhea. 2 years ago I had a colonoscopy, cat scan, mri etc with no results. I got frustrated and used to the pain. I think I may have ibs, but not sure. What a bad coincidence that would be because my wife has crohns. I have also realized over 5 years ago that i'm lactose intolerant and do not know if it's related? Help??? :(

Tcalvo (pain In Left Sided)
I had rny over 2 years ago...The pain in my left side (exactly the same as yours) started just a few months after surgery. I told my surgeon he decided I needed a stool softner...Which didn't help. I went to another gastric surgeon who ran some tests and couldn't find anything...Finally I decdided to listen to my mother (ihate it when she's right) I started taking prilosec otc, and walah no more pain. Now my pcp says my stomach makes more gastric acid than most and with the bypass no food going into my stomach to absorb it all, so it was causing an ulcer in my intestine, so now the prilosec counter acts. It truly works.

Try the prilosec otc...You can buy it over the counter...I take 1 a day...There have been occasions when I to take 1 in the morning & 1 before bed...But very rarely...Prevacid, which is a prescription works also.

Preventing Those Pains/gas Pockets On the Left Side
I have lived with those pains on the left side all my life. I am 69. I know exactly now which of my dietary indiscretions brings them on. With me it is a kink in the intestine which forms airpockets and inflammation. I got a hiatus hernia and acid reflux. I wake up far to early in the morning with my innards churning away and my bowels ready to face the day at 4.30 a.M.
Stress is a big factor. I need to live a quiet life with no changes. When I travel it flares up. Recently I found out I got insulin resistance. Now I eat no refined foods, white bread, pasta, white rice. Switched to brown rice, ryevita and roughage, a few raw veggies with cooked meals for the enzymes. It definitely helps. Diet is a big thing, and changing to the right foods takes a while. Once you fill your pantry with the right choices you are on your way to be better.
There are herbs and spices commonly found in the garden which are anti inflammatory and soothing. Thank god for computers where you can google for alot of info.
